Drummer Knockoff It has been brought to my attention someone here is attempting to copy the Drummer design and sell them on the same street corner. Although it is a common practice in the manufacturing industry to copy and follow the leaders, without the knowledge of how and why it works. Key components and designs are over looked, which yields limited performance of the product. Using inferior materials and craftsmanship to reduce cost, hurts the poor performing product even more. Two of the mufflers in question were sent to kdfab.com by customers that were unhappy with their performance. Kevin was floored to find that someone was attempting to copy his design and also humored that the attempt was so poorly fabricated. This and the fact the material used were inadequate for the application is why the mufflers performed so poorly. I know this kind of stuff is touchy, but I thought BadWebers ought to know. Please don’t flame the messenger. I know a lot of you guys already know this, but this is for the ones who don't. | ||

The mufflers are not being sold as Drummers. It is a competitor. I want be naming names or pointing fingers. You can contact Kevin for that info. Kevin said he didn't take any pictures of them. He just ripped the gutts out and reused the cans. XB9s | ||

Odie is the only one here that is also re-working the internals of the stock XB muffler.Are you suggesting he is the one???You said competitor so I take it as you are in a sense pointing a finger. | ||

Norris I find it funny someone would start a post, and open up a topic that is most likely going to bother a few people...My suggestion is, if you have something to say, and your trying to do good by warning fellow members, then come out and say what needs to be said. if it's true it's true...but give the person a chance to defend him self, if it's not true...maybe if this bothered kevin, he should have posted the info...if you have something to say...say it. this is just my thoughts | ||

" I don't see Odie's name in there per se, but the "same street corner" could possibly imply it... I don't know. It could imply Hill-billy's as well. They have a bunch of different mufflers... Well IF it is Odie you are talking about, I have seen one dyno with the Special Ops and it appeared to perform just as well as the Drummer. If you are going to make an accusation, then make it or hush up. Got proof? Show it. Even if they are the same internally, how could you possibly prove that it was copied? Its perfectly conceivable that two different people, in two different places, at two different times, could come up with an identical pipe. If it is not possible, then show us why. Is the Drummer patented? If not you have no legal leg to stand on, and in my opinion, no legs at all to stand on. | ||

I'm just trying to turn the heat down a tad on a pot that I'm quite sure is about to boil. I'd rather it boil right about the same time Kevin and Odie are posting at the same time IF it's Odie that Mike is referring to. I know you're not a huge Drummer fan and all that (to each there own, that's not a jab) but you seem to be wanting to throw salt in the water. If YOU have proof that Mike suspects Odie (I have to admit, you may have a point, but I doubt you have proof as such) then spill the beans. If not, you're in the dark just as much as I am... I'm all for speculation I suppose, it just gets sticky when the subjects are people. Sorry if I stepped on your toes, but "I" haven't seen any sort of proof that either Odie is copying Kevin's idea OR that Mike was pointing his finger in that direction. I'll not just go by assumption in the case of a person's honor. | ||

When I first read this post I thought someone was selling a reworked muffler and calling it a drummer and maybe had a fake badge or something but if it is just someone else selling a reworked muffler ,so what! If you used that thinking as a knock off, you could say the drummer was a knock off of buells stock pipe. | ||

Let's face it there are only so many ways to re-tune a stock pipe. If you start off with a stock can, and figure out how you want to tune it (for low, mid or high) you may end up with a similiar design to someone who started with the same stock can and had similair tuning goals. Everyone that I have spoken with, who has purchased a Spec Ops pipe from Odie has had great things to say about it--the same is true of the Drummer. Norris, if you are bashing Odie in a passive-aggressive way (I think you are), your opinions are not appreciated by myself or many of the readers here. You are probably losing business for yourself and possibly Kevin also. If you are (as Anonymous suggested) warning of someone who is selling a pipe with a fake Drummer badge--thanks for the warning, and I will back off the statement above. Please clarify. | ||
