I am planning to replace the muffler and air filter on my 2004 XB12S. I have been looking on line for pipes as dealerships are a rip off. Suggestions on a good web site?}}

The old Drummer (versus the new SS Drummer) works really well on the XB12 with K&N and stock ecm. If you want smooth power from low to high revs and not too loud it can't be beaten. Other main benefits are it doesn't break, looks reasonably stock and can be jacked like the original pipe (it is a modified original pipe). There are many choices, check the archives.

Edit: there is a new SS Drummer coming out for the XB12, it may require running a TFI or PCIII or similar and will put out more power, but the above option using the "old" Drummer is easy, inexpensive and very effective.

The Buell Race Kit is the way to go, the muffler is close to the same price or less than other quality mufflers and was engineered by the same guys who make you smile every time you throw a leg over your XB. Who do you think has more dyno time in muffler design, to me thats not a rip off.

I would say Drummer has as much dyno time as Buell. I know Kevin has spent thousands. The race kit is nice for racing, (hence the name). The power is on the top end. Do you ride your bike around keeping the rpm's up around 5000 to 7000 rpm? or do you use most of the rpm range? The race kit won't do squat unless your rpm's are up that high.

The point of a Buell engine is the torque. Even power delivery from around 2300 rpm to redline. The Drummer adds power evenly across the board instead of only at the top.

You can check the Dyno sheets too. In the end get what makes you happy. All the pipes have good points and bad. Figure out what you want before plunkin down your hard earned cash. Good luck!

Ahem, not "all" dealerships are a rip off.
I would, as always say D+D
List price is 595.00
I sell the for 536.36(so much for the ripoff crack)

The complete race kit from Buell which includes the ECM,muffler and airfilter lists for 654.95
I sell them for 589.45 (there I go, ripping you off again)

The Drummer is also a good pipe and I have also heard good things about Odie's SOPs pipe.

I think the D&D is worth it. I let my bro take my bike out for a while. I stood in the driveway and listened to him disappear. I could not believe that was the sound of my bike. At nearly a mile away, I could hear it roaring like a dragster!

Special OPS from Odie. $250 delivered!! with stock pipe core, but how cool is that, Great performance, reliablity for the price of a Jardine, oh and much better sound. I haven't got one yet, I am waiting for my Jardine to blow out first.

Eat_a_duc,
I see in your profile that you currently have a Vance and Hines pipe. I was not aware that V&H made a pipe for the XB. Did you modify it to fit? Just curious...

Off topic but... Naughty, I always check out your profile to scope that sweet illustration you have in there. What a great character! I'm a designer, I geek-out on cool icons like that. Heh.

Hope you don't mind but... I took the illustration for a quick whirl in Photoshop to clean it up for you. Here's a few you can use... if you like, of course ; )

I put the graphics in a ZIP file so they're not clogging up the thread... naughty_nurse.zip

Thanks Typeone...I told my friend who is also on this board FIERY_XB what I wanted for a "NaughtyNurse" and she invented her for me. It has been MY icon....a lot of people like her!!
I had her on my blast(tail)..I have traded it in for an XB and now trying to figure out where to put her , I wanted to shrink her down in size. I had her on file in my computer and due to a computer crash last summer I lost her in my files. The one that is on my profile is a scanned pix of her that I have on some"personal" files/paperwork.. Thanks!!

thats excellent! FIERY did a great job, i love it. that sucks about loosing the artwork, if you need it back as vector (or outlines) art so you can pull it into Adobe Illustrator and size infinitely just let me know. i think it would be pretty easy for me to trace it.

that would be a pretty sweet tattoo ; )

About the mufflers. I like the looks of the dual outlet on the race can and D&D. For the type of riding I do the race can seems to do the trick. Never rode anything to compare it to. Xb's are a little hard to find around my parts.

I think the new loud DRUMMER is pretty close to the d&d as far as sound. Ive owned both, i like the drummers power better though. ride fellow riders bikes with different pipes then make your choice.

I like the OPS pipe myself. It's got dual outlets, nice sound and still has the valve. It seems to run well and it's got a good price also...

If you get the D&D, you'll be happy with it. Plus you get to keep your old muffler in case you ever sale your bike.

When I was looking into the after market cans I wasnt looking for the loudest but he best sounding with the best performance. Some dont care about how it performs but just how loud they can get. Its all personal preference. 400 beans was more than I wanted to spend but you usually get what you pay for. So I went for the Drummer and it was worth every penny. Kevin is a great guy to deal with and he will make you pipe however you want it , loud, quiet ect... So make an informed decision on your own preferences.

I really like what I got with the race kit.

Alot of people say, get the pipe that will affect your driving style the most. It is really good advice. So take a look at where you have the rpms the majority of the time, then look at the dyno charts and compare.
Since I came from a japanese bike, I tend to stay up top when hitting turns and the race kit's performance matches my riding style.

I also like the sound of the race kit. It is much louder than stock but at the same time you can get away without wearing earplugs for 30 minutes or less of riding.

The Race kit is also a great deal. About $560 for muffler, Air Filter and Race ECM.

Rub, the valve is on the stock 12s and on Odies pipes. It helps make the power smooth all thru the rev range. For instance, the D&D leans towards the midrange, the Buell race pipe leans towards the top end and Odie's and Kevins pipes seem to be all around pipes. It's a matter of what kind of power, sound you want and how much $$$ you're wanting to spend.
