I bought a used race ecm, but it has an extra terminal that my ecm did not have. What plugs onto it? See picture

Also, wondering about the numbers on the ecm.
The box and instruction sheet say the race ecm part # is 32814-02YA but the ecm has the # 32801-02YA on it, is this right?

I Know on the 12's both stock and race ecm has that terminal. Not sure on the 9's

I'm wondering if it's a ground for the 9S, maybe the "S" model uses a separate ground since the ecu is all the way in the back under the seat?

Hello Saintly,

The part numbers you listed are correct for the race ECM on the XB9S, and the terminal I am told, was used to re-program the stock ECM to the race ECM. So don't connect the terminal to anything, just remember you will need to reset the TPS.

Happy motoring!

Ok, I just tried it with that terminal not connected to anything. I have not re-set the Throttle Pos. sensor, but I figured I could at least put the ecm in & ride to the dealer on Monday for the re-set.

My bike won't idle or accellerate with the race ecm installed. It pops terribly thru the intake, stalls, and has the red light with the V-twin engine lit all the time. Is this normal? Will the TPS reset cure all this?

Page 4-96 (figure 4-66)in the '05 manual says that it is a connector for the interactive exhaust. Although I just put my race ecm in my 9sx and it also had one. As did the stock ecm. I'm not sure but they must use one universal box and program them for the application needed, being a 9 or 12.

Some people get lucky and the TPS is close enough to get them to the dealer, but from you description you will need the TPS reset before going anywhere.

I concur with Walt. Put the stock ecm back in. The stock one does not have to be reset. Make an appointment for a tps reset. Go to the dealer 15 minutes earlier than the appointment, bring tools, and while in the parking lot put the race ecm in. The dealer will spend about 15-30 minutes resetting it (from the time that they actually start working on it) & you'll be off riding.
