Good job, Mr. Buell! It's the size of my X1 and is just what I've been looking for.

Ooooooh! Take it for a spin when you get a chance. I'll have to rely on your efforts till I can swing a leg over one.

how can you tell if it is the long version? I know the wheelbase is different, but not much else.

harley shop won't let us see the crate, and they might be a bit put off if I was in there with a tape measure to measure the length.

i think im just gonna call tech services and see if they can tell me if it will fit.

Just think how good it would look to have a choped fender with the tire sticking out that extra 2in...and it will help when i race

Yes the longer wheelbase might help some riders but I just can't help thinking that the short wheelbase models are the ultimate in the tight stuff, and may become the "S1" of the future if the line gets discontinued. Many riders asked for a bigger roomier bike and Buell delivered.

As for putting the longer swingarm on an existing bike, I wonder why, it's already a bike with outstanding handling, the rake and trail on the longer bike are different to suit the longer wheelbase. When I explained to my elderly Dad 18 months ago that I was buying a street bike with an extremely steep steering head angle and a very short wheelbase he just said something like "well that would make sense, that's the only way it would work"

The XB12Ss just might be my next bike. Though I agree with Opto with regards the 52" wheelbase models being THE bike to have in the tight stuff. I'm looking for a bike that best suits my own "real world" riding and tall lanky arse. The Thruxton I have (with Lightning footpegs : ) ) currently meets these personal requirements. But there's just something about Buells that I can't seem to do without even though the ownership of my previous two XBs lasted only a year each. They were like a pair of custom Tony Llamas a half size too small...loved 'em, but was never a good fit. I guess size(ing) does matter.

Why not the XB12X you say? Just not my cuppa tea. After reading the posts on this board and the review in Cycle World on this bike I too feel that Buell has created a winner. A little too Hummerish for me perhaps as I tend not to stray far from home these days, but a bike I would seriously consider if my riding habits included commuting or adventuring much beyond my own back yard.

Now that the newness of the '06 introduction has subsided somewhat, I look forward to seeing the Lightning Long in person...with much anticipation. Hey Cubby! Got Buell #5 yet?!

I feel the Lightning Long will be a brilliant and desired bike. It looks a bit normal versus stubby. I just barely fit into an XB12S at 5'10". I hope the Lightning Long brings in a heap more Buell owners with the possibility of their girlfriends/partners now able to fit on the back with a bit more room. It looks really nice too.

To anyone who has seen the new Long, how much longer is the rear subframe? Does it look like it could be a direct swap onto an '03 xbs? I would love to have a little extra room on my Lightning, and think that swapping the long subframe is a cheaper option than doing the S>R tail conversion. Anyone able to verify?

The frame looks wider as well.

The Ss has the higher capactity re-designed frame. I will have to see in person to measure the mounting points for the tail swap.

The extra fuel storage was achieved by making the frame rails wider(or thicker, whichever makes more sense to you). But this does not necessarily mean the mounting points would have to be different.

We will see when I receive our first one.
