So I'm riding along a twisty country backroad today when I came up behind an SUV with a big screamin' chicken on the bar and shield in his back window. Clearly a rider, clearly partial to his Harley. So I slowed down, and for about three or four minutes I was riding behind him at a respectable distance when we came up to a stop sign at an intersection. He pulled up to the stop sign, but then pulled over to the shoulder and motioned me past him. Just as I was coming up along side, his "come on by" wave suddenly changed to a "STOP!", and when he stuck his burly unshaven harley-riding head out the window and looked at me, what do you think he said? "Hey.... yer headlight's out!" | ||

PS: So I told him that's normal and showed him how the headlights work. "Really? That sucks... you should get that fixed!" | ||

thats why i rewired mine so that both stay on when its on high beam, or you can put the switch between the two and they will both be on. | ||

i usually ask "which one?" throw the HB switch quick, look at there faces when they see the other light on and speed away i crack myself up | ||

Ok here is my good samaritan story. Riding from L.A. to Sacramento via the 5 North (UGH). Got between Bakersfield and Fresno (some refer to this area as hell) about 11:30 at night. Was pulling out of a rest area when the rear flatted out at an entrance speed of (classified).... I limped the bike back to the rest area on the Southbound side of the 5 frwy. Ok, I dont have AAA so I know I am soooo screwed as the nearest dealer is 100 miles away in Bakersfield. I pulled the bike onto the sidewalk and proceeded to stare at it. The hole was pretty darn large. Suddenly a fellow walks up and says "Hey I have a plug kit, it looks like ya need it" Not beleving my luck He walks over and stuffs a plug in it for me. The he says "sorry, I dont have a pump". Ever gratefull anyway, I thank him and offer up a few thank you dollars which he promptly refuses. So I am sitting there staring at the tire.... Just a few more minutes go by when another fellow walks over and not just offers but gives me a little foot pump! (again refusing any thank you dollars). I start pumping and get to about 25lbs. when the plug fails...... Again I am sitting there, staring at the tire... Just a few more minutes go by and another fellow walks up and says "Hey you need a ride bro? I got an F350 with some tiedowns". You ever been sitting at a rest area alone, middle of the night when somone twice you size and sporting more Mexican gang tattoos than you can count offers ya a hand? Well guys, I live in L.A. and usually it would not be a good thing...... Turns out to be a great thing! You see, he retired from gangs years ago. Seems he got tired of getting stabbed. 47 times with enough visible scars to make me not guess (or count) the ones I could not see. Now he delivers toy haulers to destinations all over the country and trys to do "The right thing" as often as possible. It seems helping me out was by his definition "The right thing". He also told me I was driving casue he was tired! He then detoured 50 miles out of his way (Bakersfield is on the 99. 25 miles from the 5 South). Again another person who refused to take ANY money!!! The rest of the story involves the only Harley dealer in Bakersfield who does not sell Buell. A really awesome independent shop who had my exact tire (great price and he gave me all the tools and a trackstand to pull it myself). I will do some research this evening and put the shops name in here as they deserve it! Lessons learned? 1. People can be much nicer than they may seem at first glance. 2. Lots of people want to help if given the opportunity. 3. Living in L.A. is not all it is cracked up to be. 4. Bakersfield has a really awesome shop with the axel removal tool. (Name to be inserted soon.) 5. There are more but this is already getting a little long winded. Oh, I finsihed the ride by going from Sacramento to San Francisco down the coast and back to Lake Arrowhead via all the usual side roads. 852 miles in a day. Lots of twistys and a really sore bum (curses the stock seat). | ||

See, had just the opposite side of this last weekend... My buddy and I were leaving the beach, ridding up 264, heading back to my house... His XB started up its crap again... Left us on teh side of teh highway for 3 HOURS, before a tow truck(roll back finally came, 80 bucks fro 4 miles) Harley owners waved and pointed...this one couple in a pick up, slwoed down, took pics...they did this 3 times(yeah I got the plate)..the only poeple that stopped were sport riders...and one guy wiht a warrior... All these pick ups in Virginia, and not ONE stopped to offer any help...on the middle of a saturday afternoon...yeah, I cant wait to leave there.... Something like that, makes you REALLY appreciate when people do offer help...whether they accept the tahnk you dollars or not.... Chase | ||

Summer before last I was on my way home from work goin' north on I85. In the midst of rush hour traffic. I'm in Atlanta, the traffic here is unbelievable, and the drivers are even more so. I'm in the HOV lane, when my belt broke (original old style). Nowhere to go but the almost non-existsant left "emergency lane." Before I could even get my helmet off, this kid pulls up on his Blast. He asks if he can do anything, I ask him if he's got a cell phone (I'm famous for leaving mine where ever I put it down) he says "Yeah man, no problem." Even before he can get to his phone, another guy pulls up in a BIG Dodge truck. He asks if he can give me and the bike a lift to the next exit. Of course I take him up on his offer, but I'm worried about getting the bike up in the back of his truck (it's a BIG 4 wheel drive), he says, "hell man, I put my 4 wheeler back there all the time with only my brother to help." He tells me to get up in the bed and he'll lift the front end up, if I can guide it in he'll lift the back up. Unbelievably he does just that, he just about lifted the bike up by himself! Not only does the guy get me and my bike in the truck, he gives me a ride all the way to Ann's work. Thank goodness there's a loading dock next door. He wouldn't take thank you money either. Cool huh! | ||

Interestingly, the question is not "why is your Buell fan running", it should be "why is your bike's fan *not* running". At the moment the bike shuts down, ALL bikes are aircooled, even the water cooled ones. What happens to whatever oil is in your head at the moment the kill switch gets hit? |
