OK, I have a force GEN I exhaust, all welded up and looking for more help on bottom end.I was looking for a baffel. Problem is that on their site they say that it fits a 2 3/4 exhaust opening. I measured mine, and it's 2 1/2. Anyone have this problem? Any ideas?

The baffle doesn't help much...

Get a Drummer : ).

How's the sound compare? ( I just love it when my harley buddies won't ride next to me!) If it's just a little more mellow, I'll do it for the performance. I'm one of those mechanic's that just won't leave good enough alone. The "wheezing" you were talking about is very annoying. I have been thinking of some kind of back pressure mod for the Force without hurting the sound. I have a pretty good idea, but until tested, I'm gonna stay quiet. If it works, I'm gonna post it here for all.

baffle helped on the gen 2, it was a 3" opening though. just call and talk to john, tell him what you have and he'll make sure you get what you need.

Brewtus, if you could please give me some insight on what exactly you welded on your gen 1 pipe. I have one as well and knowing all the problems with them purchased one anyway, love the sound and the performance above 3500 RPM! Mine has cracked at the front chin spoiler mount, what method of welding did you use to fix yours? Mig/Tig?? Have access to welding machines and good welders but would like to hear some input from others. Thanks

Do some searches... I posted pics of my welding fix a while ago (and it's till fine). I'm sure if you do a search for "Force Exhaust Weld" you'll find it.

I added some metal to the baffle even (I blocked about 2/3 of the perforated portion of it) and it didn't help at all... just made it wheeze more on top. It seems to run the best w/o the baffle, but still runs like CRAP below 3K on a 12.

The Drummer isn't as loud as the Force but it sounds good in it's own way. I do like the sound of the Force better, but I like everything else about the Drummer better...

Here it is...

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/102872.html

I have since also welded a thicker plate vertically in between the left side of the front mount and the rear portion of the left side chin spoiler mount. This adds a LOT of rigidity to the "oval" mount. I also ran a piece of round stock from the plate that I welded on the back of the oval mount to the right side rear chin spoiler mount to add rigidity to that side of the oval mount.

Make sure that if you are welding it after the oval mount breaks off (yeah, mine COMPLETELY separated from the pipe, it was only supported by the two rear chin spoiler mounts) that you attach the chin spoiler while you tack it in place. I didn't and it placed enough stress on the chin spoiler that it broke the right side of it...

The main problem is that the "oval mount" flops like a landed fish. This causes the welds around the pipe and the part that sticks out for the front spoiler mount to break.

Booger,
here are some pics

I cut the plates out of some old scrap steel and mig welded them in. (Sorry, don't know what thickness steel) On the front chin spoiler, I made some support brackets both underneath and on top. On the header side of the spoiler mount, I added another support. I have about 1,500 miles with these mods, and haven't had a problem.}

I've got one of the Gen I Force pipes, and have also modified it as well. In fact Brewtus' design is more or less the same as what I did. I posted pics here, but for some reason, I can't find them in the archive.

My designed worked until I recently took it to Deals Gap. I dunno if all the hard riding broke it or not, but more or less it completely seperated from the front mount like M1's.

I've since boxed in the front mount, with a hole cut into it like the Force stock piece so it would match. So far, so good. But I've said that before.

Why they break? I think it's a combination of vibration and the metal "growing" when they get hot. A hard mount, with nowhere for the metal to expand, plus the vibration equals a cracked mount. This kinda explains the newer version FOrce having the spring joints.

Since I got it fixed for the second time, I didn't install the clamp that mates the lower pipe to the header, hoping some expansion there might relieve some stress.

I keep telling myself this is a RACE pipe. It was never intended to run at 2500 rpm. If you like to putt, buy something else. Aaron Wilson posted a lONG time ago that they were never able to rid the bikes of the low rpm stumble. Since admitting to myself that fact, I've quit fumbling around trying to fix the stumble between 2500 and 3k.

The standard Force baffle will fit these pipes just fine.

I fiddled with welding a big ol' washer to end of the baffle to maybe create some more back pressure, but like M1's findings, it did little to help the bottom end, and changed the behavior on top. Maybe I could have tuned it out with the PCIII, but I just removed the washer and ride on.

Once you get addicted to the sound one of these make, it's hard to think about using anything else. But if you don't like loud, snarling, big cammed dragster-like sound, then this pipe isn't for you.

And it ain't all about the sound. This thing rocks in the midrange and on top. Which is where I ride.

noface,
I did see those photos here once, but when I was ready to modify my pipe, I couldn't find them again. I think it was you're idea I used for the front support underneath.
I just finished rigging a Supertrapp end cap onto my pipe, and man it looks stupid! I just came back in from a test ride and I did get my torque back. I can come out of slow speed turns in fourth gear again, but up top it was laying down worse than before just like M1 said it did to him with some restriction added to his baffle. It lays down about 5000 RPM, but then pulls HARD from 6000 to redline. I think I will try it with the power commander and see if I can work around it. It seems to be too rich up top now.
