Buells Rule! (Dyna in disguise)

I think Buell did a good job & appears to have corrected a number of issues folks have had with the previous years models. Didnt see that one coming did ya? The lightning lineup overall doesnt do much for me due to the lack of a really decent windscreen....long trips can be rather tiring on your upper body. But for some strange reason I do like the Ulysess....dont know why, maybe its the BMWesque look to it? Better belt, more fuel capacity, longer wheelbase, better motor mounts, improved air intakes, etc add up a vastly better bike over the previous years. I can see the value of older XB's dropping a bit due to how much better these new bikes are, it may be a good time to snag some really choice deals on left over 03 & 04 models. Personally I am actually looking forward to test riding the Ulysess. |

I'm excited about the 06 Belt drive and the "Kick Ash" translucid airbox. I might make mine KA and black. I'm not in the market for an AT bike. That said I hope the Ulysess kicks BMW's proverbial- when it comes to sales. Go USA! On the HD side, the Dyna series has a 6 speed tranny. The Touring models don't. The Night Rod looks cool in all black, but has the smaller 3.7 gallon tank. The Springer Classic looks good, and the Dyna Street Bob holds promise if it lost the factory apes. Interesting to see HD offering "Black Denim" (i.e. Flat Black) paint as an option. After years of all these stretched chrome covered customs getting all the press and airtime, maybe Rat Bikes will be the new "IT" bikes! |

I like the orange wheels. Now to find a good color combination, and a reason to get them. Or I could just have mine coated in any color I want. Options, options. I do like the fact that on Buell's website they talk crap!! The statement about there is nothing better than a V-Twin for street legal riding!! And how the fan scares the punk kid when he gets on your bike as you go get some coffee! Funny little statements like this made me smile. Too bad there wasn't anything like that about the ZTL brake system. |

I wonder if the orange wheel is the same orange color as the blue/orange 03 XB9R color scheme? |

I have personally never felt my Dyna needed a 6 speed trans. It cruises quite comfortably at 70-75mph. The 6th gear in my R1 I may have shifted into once or twice. Most of the time I never have to go any higher than 4th. I too like the pics I have seen so far of the "kick ash" airbox. Much better than the blue version which never did anything for me. |

I think that as long as the X withstands the abuse that some will give it. It will be a good investment on Buells part. If the bike has any weakness then others will bash it. |

On the HD side, the Dyna series has a 6 speed tranny. The Touring models don't. the dyna 6 speed ISNT a over drive 6th gear is 1to1 just like the rest its a close ratio 1-5 with 1to1 final makes it a little quicker Izzinya (Message edited by izzinya on July 24, 2005) |

I was thinking that the Ulysses would be an adequate replacement for the aging S3Ts that are out there till I came across this: 33.1 in seat height |

the dyna 6 speed ISNT a over drive They are billing it as "The all-new 6-speed Cruise Drive™". Surprised to see it debut on the less expensive Dyna line. |

Does that sunset orange look like red to you guys? I have a sunset orange Blast. It's red. If you took it to the mall and asked 100 people what color it was they would all say red. If you sat it next to a fire engine, then someone might say it was orange. Unless you live in one of those places that have yellow fire engines, and then people would say the bike is red. |

Dyna- I'm going to see if all I need to change is the headlight modules so the new windscreen could go on my XB12S for winter riding. Looks might it may give some decent protection...... |

The new models are pretty cool. I'm not going to complain about them. What I AM going to complain about is that NOTHING was done with the Firebolt. Is the 'Bolt going the way of the Dodo or does this mean we are in for a revamped Firebolt lineup next year? Or the year after? C'mon Erik, throw us 'Bolt lovers a bone here. |

As a Firebolt owner I totally agree with Indy, What about the Firebolt? What about more power? I'm not interested in the S or X models, I'm sure there are lots of people that will love these new models but I'm not one of them. Let down would be an understatement. |

Did the Bolt not get the better tranny? The reduced effort clutch lever? The lighter swingarm & new belt? The new "cut" inner air box cover & vented outer airbox cover? Increased fuel capacity (3.82 gal)? I think Buell added quite a few small but significant improvements to an otherwise perfect sportbike. No they didn't get more power but what model did? |

None of those things are worth upgrading to except maybe the belt which will get put on if mine ever breaks. |

How about some clear plastics for the bolt? An Orange airbox cover will look pretty stupid with a red fairing. |

I'm not downing Buell. The new bikes are great. Just not "for me" |

And the differences between the 04 R1 and the 05 R1 were??? 12bolt - Not every bike is redesigned every year. |

Dudes! You are missing the truth on this issue... The Firebolt is so damn awesome that it takes a LOT more time to find a way to improve it. Patience brothers of the faired Buell world. |

Either I'm reading the wrong Buell.com or I don't understand the meaning of the worth NOTHING. From what I can see the '06 Firebolt has seven upgrades from the '05 model. That's a step up from the '05 model which only had six upgrades from the '04 model. I can also think of five upgrades that the '04 Firebolt had over the '03. Not only did the Firebolt see changes, it saw an increased number of changes over the previous model years. Here's the list I came up with: New for '06: - Stronger belt with new guards - Lighter and stiffer swingarm with better oil fill - Slight frame change resulting in larger fuel tank - New airbox design - Dog ring transmission with better shift quality - Reduced clutch effort (15% lighter for XB9, 22% lighter for XB12) - Stronger oil pump drive gear New for '05: - Improved steering head bearings - Larger, 43mm front forks - Better OEM tires - Replaceable indicator light bulbs - Quieter fuel pump - One piece throttle body for XB9R New for '04: - Stronger belt with new pulleys and guards - Lower passenger pegs - Longer mirrors - Improved kickstand - Longer shifter toe peg That adds up to about 17 improvements on the '06 XB9R to your '03. 8 of those are visible from just walking around the bike, not including color changes. 11 of them will make a noticeable difference when riding. 4 of them make the bike more reliable. I'll agree that none have been major, but they add up to a noticeably better bike all around. It is simply incorrect to claim that nothing was done to the Firebolt. |

XB12Ss...finally a new Buell for the big guys. Looks like my Cyclone may have a new stablemate...and my idea of picking up an FZ1 is out the window. I always liked the the XB's but they are just too damn small for my 6'3" 265lb frame. |

Sorry guys, I didn't mean to sound like a spoil-sport. I do appreciate the improvements. My point is that I still don't have a reason to upgrade my bike. Buell has been doing alot with the Lightning. While this is all well and good, and the new bikes are cool, they just don't tickle my fancy. OK Erik, and/or Anony, this is what I want: A rompin' stompin' rip-snortin' ground poundin' pavement eatin' fire breathin' FIREBOLT! (preferably stretched, with see-thru plastics. Um, please? Oh yeah, turbo or supercharged would be cool too.) |

i think that the new XB12X is a very interesting bike if you are in to dual sport riding. personally i don't want a bike that looks like an enduro with saddle bags. if thats what some of you have been waiting for then i'm glad buell has provided a perfect bike for you. but i'm still waiting. i currently have an XB9R 03'. i like it very much. but theres more that i want. the new X is pretty cool i guess. and the S got some nifty new stuff, they made a longer version and a few other nifty things. the only thing done to the R was some small performance and safety upgrades. wich is nice, but i'm not going to run out and get a new belt, or fit my bike with a lighter swingarm. i feel that there could have been more done with the R. a few after market/stock parts could have easily been added to the line-up without much effort. a full fairing would have been awesome, maybe some other engine parts to increase power somehow (i'm not a mechanic so i don't know specifics) |
