Does anybody have any current recommendations on Boston-area dealers? A quick search here turns up comments saying that Boston HD is pretty uninterested in Buells these days (they're very near me, so this sucks). Paramount in Framingham is supposedly better. My brief phone conversations with these dealers reinforce what I've heard here.

Anybody got any recommendations on dealers further afield? I'm willing to go a couple of hours away to buy.

A quick note to introduce myself, since this is my first post: I started riding about a year ago. The 20-year-old beater Nighthawk I got for a learner has been fun, but I'm ready to move on to something that is lighter, faster, nimbler, and that doesn't burn oil. For a long time I've been torn between the SV650 and the VStrom, and Buell wasn't even on my radar. But after hearing the rumors about the Ulysses at Advrider (where I'm an unregistered lurker) and then here, I started looking seriously at Buells, and, well, now I'm torn between the CityX and the Ulysses. (Basically I'm deciding whether I want a bike that does two things (commute+play) brilliantly or one that does three things (commute+play+tour) very very well.)

Welcome!

How about a really cool trip to Wisconsin to pick up your new bike?
Depending on how soon you need your bike you may want to stay tuned to Badweb for an upcoming "Come to Wisconsin, ride your new Buell home" type sale.
Or, you can always PM me thru my profile and we can discuss how to get you a bike!

Elzo, having spent 6 years of my life at Fort Devens in the '80s I would go with the off-roader. I had tons of fun up there on dirt bikes, Jeeps, and 3 wheelers. There seemed to be trails for days. Man, I miss that place......

Even though they still have the Buell sign out front and list Buell parts in their mailings, I was told Boston HD does not sell Buell any more(quite rudely and I'm not the sensitive type). Steer clear and go elsewhere for anything. Got my CityX @ Manchester HD In NH. You'll pay MSRP but they are great people to deal with. Even the Harley guys talk Buell and love em. Jake in service is a Buell guy, has an X1 if I remember correctly. He's making it real Buell friendly and he knows his shitte. Happy hunting

"Come to Wisconsin, ride your new Buell home"

Dave, would you call my wife and tell her that this is a new gov't requirement? Seems she thinks I don't need a new bike since I refuse to part w/ my S3.

I went to Paramount yesterday to see what they had on the new Buells. No one there knew anything about them, but they did show me the web site. The only Buell on the floor was a used Blast. Kelly's in Billerica was more Buell-friendly the last time I was there a few months ago.

Paramount in Framingham never really impressed me either while looking for Buell. Might be too far but Sheldon's in Auburn seems to have a great Buell crew, good Buell presentation right when you walk in and lots of Buell work shirts wandering around. its all the little things that add up...

but what do i know, I picked up my bike through Dave out in The Land of Cheese Definitely take advantage of a promo through Appleton Buell if you can, best bike purchase I've ever experienced.

beware of sheldons, they don't stand behind their work. MHD has done right by me; they are always very helpful and know parts/service for the buell.

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. It sounds like I'll be giving Manchester HD a call tomorrow.

I'm leaning heavily towards the Ulysses; I'm not actually that interested in its dirt ability. Despite my Advrider lurking, I've never done any dirt riding, and though I want to learn, I'd rather do it on something with fewer pounds and ponies. But even if it never sees dirt or gravel, the longer suspension and extra ground clearance on the Uly will be useful to me; I've scraped bottom and bottomed out the suspension on my Nighthawk too often on crappy Boston roads. That low ground clearance on the CityX makes me pretty nervous.

Daves,

Buying in Wisconson and driving back here sounds like fun. But if I was going to do that, I'd want to take my time and explore on the way home, and I've already promised the gf that the next vacation will be a week in Hawaii.

Can't make a trip to the factory if you don't come to Wisconsin.

Elzo - I've been living and riding in MA/NH since 1970. "Buell Central" is Meredith HD/Buell in Meredith NH. I've been to every Buell dealer in NH, MA, and CT. Some are better than others. It all depends who you talk to when ya get there. Dave King is a parts guy and got involved with Buells very early. He worked at Manchester HD/Buell for years... back when they were the #1 dealer in Buell sales (Pegasis Award) for several years running. Then they were sold; Dave went to Meredith and sales (Bob D.) went to Paramount HD/Buell. That passion, knowledge, and "connections" went to Meredith with Dave. Ya wanna talk Buell? Sent me an email offline... I'll even take a roadtrip with ya to Meredith... Also, the only BRAG in NH is at Meredith...

This is like the blind men describing an elephant story.
Sheldons has always stood behind their work for me.

Precision didn't allow test drives the last time I was there.

And Paramount had MANY Buells in there the last time I was there (I was last in there at the end of May).

Nate, give me an example of how they stand behind their work. What did they do to your bike that caused it to fail and what did they do to make it right?

I'm not bad mouthing sheldon's I relaying my experiences with them. I wouldn't go back there after they way they "took care of me"

MHD fixed the problems Sheldon's caused and worked with the factory (along with some others on the board)so that I was reimbursed for the $1500 I paid to fix the mistake Sheldon's made.

"Come to Wisconsin, ride your new Buell home"

Hummm, lets see I have a couple weeks vacation saved. It would be a nice ride home to PA!

Can't wait until the XB12X hits the dealers.

I bought my bike at Precision HD/Buell in Rhode Island. They were pretty good, but the wouldn't talk price at all, they we easy to deal with though.

Next time I think I'll take the trip up to Meredith HD/Buell in Hew Hampshire. I hear they are much better.

*Precision was doing Demo ride in the spring of this year. The only sales guy there that had a clue about anything Buell was Joseph.

Paramount HD in Framingham buys all their bikes outright. Because of this they don't feel rushed in moving out bikes as fast as they can, so they never talk price. Good parts department though.

Manchester HD always was my dealership of choice, but I moved to NY 2 years ago so I cannot speak for them now.

Boston HD in Everett MA is pretty good about making deals, they like to shift bikes quickly, but they apparently out of the Buell Biz.

Precision HD in Rhode Island is owned by the same people who own Paramount...again...okay people, but not really motivated to sell.

Just my 2 cents

Hi,

I was at Precision on Sat morning. They had 4 '05's on the floor. Three S's and an R I think. (coffee hadn't kicked in yet) They have an red 12S demo they are trying to move too. (If I remember right, that one has some damage from being dropped in the parking lot, they may cut you some slack. never hurts to ask)

Talk to Joseph, tell him I sent you. They don't move on the price but might kick in something for a referral. (I'm not holding my breath, you shouldn't either)

Tom

If you are willing to travel, give Rob R. a call at Gengras Harley in CT, Mention me it will help. Other then that I dont know, LI is a Anti Buell zone.

Dave S out at Appleton Buell in WI can really work the magic!!! He is an option regardless of where you live.

As soon as they allow stand alone Buell Dealers, "Buzzbin Buell" will open and answer the prayers of fellow LI'ers.

I LOVE MY XR984R -formerly known as XB"NineR" created as XB9R.....
