Well I was hoping for more, at least they did come out with a new model even if it doesn't appeal to me.

I just wish they would have come out with some new colors for the firebolt and not just the lightning. The new orange for the lightning looks red to me, but maybe it will look better in the dealership.

Also, I wish they would come out with some more accessories for the old XB's instead of just the one new part, the oil pump gear is the only really interesting new part. Why did they put a V in the new seat for the lightning?

I am not very impressed with the new line up I guess, but I hope it brings some new riders to Buell.

I was hoping for an ST but I really like the xb12x as a all in one motorcycle. I think its trade in time for me. Nice job Buell. Oh and did you guys check out the new seats for the lightnings, they look great!

Ok, impressed and unimpressed at the same time. The lightning long looks like the bike for me, but man that clear orange is kewl...do you guys think accessories and aftermarket stuff for the standard lightnings will fit the long? I would assume any body pieces will not fir st if the long doesn't sell well, parts could be an issue in the future....
That little extra windvest on the Ulyssis (sp?) is pretty trick, hope it fits on the lightnings...

Although some models are unchanged I think Erik has done a great job again! I think the long XB12s will address some past complains regarding passenger comfort, and as for the Ulysses, well, I wished it had came out last year-I would have never gotten my V-Strom!

I have a feeling we will see new changes for the Firebolts next year. We wouldn't have anything to look forward to if everything changed at once!

I'm not ready to trade in my '03 firebolt, but the lightning long is EXACTLY the bike I was hoping Buell would develop. It's like an XB version of the M2 cyclone.

Yeah, a ST would be nice, but I guess the Ulysees is supposed to sort of fill that void a bit.

I like the new Lightning Long. A bike for taller riders like me (6'-3" )

Anyone check out the new HD's, I really like the new Dyna Street Bob with its flat black paint job and $13K price and six speed tranny. May have to get another bike.

Here's a rough comparison of the general dimensions of the Lightning vs. the Ulysses. Thought it was interesting.

Let me start out by saying... I like the new models!!! We wanted a touring bike and Erik delivered, If I was to be going on long rides I would have to have one. The luggage system is awesome. Here is my question... I wonder if you can switch out the tail section from the 12X to a regular "S" model like "R" to "S" and vice versa? So, those that want the luggage rack can purchase it(I am talking about the "tri-position seat" OH, and did you see the only color for the new 9R's is yellow (not my preferred color). Kinda makes me think the only options for the "R" series is limited for more experience riders. Let me explain...a new rider wants and likes the "R" series and is limited to yellow (again not my color) or they have to get the 12 (kinda big for a beginner) Well, I guess that will make MY bike more unique! I like what was put out this year.

Shawn

I totally love the new bikes!
The X just rocks. I love the versatility. The Ss is long overdue (no pun intended) for all you tall folk.

Still, I'm glad I didn't wait before buying my 05 12cg. It is still my perfect bike but if I were taller I'd definitely be wanting an X.

Kudos to Buell.

Oh the Firebolt is not unchanged. It appears to me to have the 06 swingarm & belt on it. I guess Buell figured it was better not to change what works & the Firebolt plain works. It didn't really need any tweaking. (in my own opinion of course)

"kick ash" color optin on the 06 SX looks sweeeet.. If I would've known that was coming out I would've waited!!

I wonder when new parts will be available?

--edit--

I'm really liking the new line up. One completely new bike, an XB12 "long" version, new eye-candy for the rest of the other chassis..

I hope this pushes Buell sales along even further.

Shawn, simply changing the rear section would not be wise, as now you have weight AFT of the centerline of the rear axle, on an already wheelie happy machine. The swingarm as well is longer. Note the XB12X has a 54+ inch wheelbase.

I'm not all that excited about the new lineup either. I like the new design of the swing arm but think the belt guards are hideous. If the belt is so much stronger, why is the belt guard larger than the 2005 models? I like the new orange, although I agree, I thought it was more red. Why only a yellow XB9R? Especially when the plastics from the 12R fit.

What I'll find interesting is that the Ulysses might bring in a new segment of riders, which means one more group to complain about the service they get from a large majority of the Harley dealers.

All they had for the XB9R last year was yellow too. All in all I think they accomplished what they wanted...interest in new customers that might never have looked a Buell, a larger XB for those tube frame Buellers that wished the regular XB was bigger, and multiple refinements to an already proven line up.

mikel,
Good call... I was not really thinking about that. I was just looking at the luggage options for those that already have the "S" models.

Preventative probably. Why leave it exposed. Heck, take a look at the HD's belt gaurds. This looks just like how they're done.

I really like the 2 new see through colors
Both the Orange and Grey look killer.

I might have to pick up the Orange at some point just to have the option of switching. It will be like I have 2 bikes

I'm kinda undecided at the moment!

We asked for more fuel, delivered!

We asked for a touring model, mostly delivered!

We got better transmissions for 06, thats cool, will they bolt up to the older XB's when we are ready to upgrade, due to wear or breakage? If yes that would be cool.

I hope the X model brings new people to our brand, not the bike for me but it's innovative and different to say the least. BMW here we come!

Anyone notice the little things??? Look at the aerial view of the XB12Ss...see the vents behind the gas cap? Remind you of any mods performed right here on the badweb?? (pretty cool...)

Then check out the new translucid orange airbox cover. Notice the cut up airbox and exposed aircleaner?? More badweb influence? (pretty damn cool too!)

I like the "grill"/air inlet behind the fuel fill ..and what is the deal with the fuel ratings ? the 12X gets better mileage than the 12 ?? all other specs seem in line ?

MILWAUKEE, WI - Badweatherbikers, a loosely organized group of geographically, culturally and intellectually diverse group of owners of Buell American Motorcycles, today announced through their attorney that they have initiated a class action law suit against Buell.

Badweb, in their loosely organized group of geographically, culturally and intellectually diverse filing asserts Buell has seized, misappropriated and manufactured the by-product of Badwebs loosely organized ongoing internet debate which ranges, at various stages, from junior high debate to bar room brawl, in the design of the new Buell Ulysses XB12X motorcycle.

This is not the first time a group of owners has been moved to action in response to Buell listening and responding to the needs of their owners.

In a prepared statement, Blake Rudy, literally a long tall somewhat opinionated self-appointed spokesperson, said

quote:

we see this not as a one time offense on behalf of the people of Buell Motorcycles, but rather a pattern. Over the years they have not been like other motorcycle companies. They send their leader and his underlings to infiltrate our gatherings, they engage in our most heated debates and then go and apply their collective genius to making what we ask for. We, as a group, have had it right up to here (placing hand atop balding head at an approximately height of 6'-6" ) with these guys taking our ideas."

Rudy continued saying that things at Buell have only gotten worse. Rudy alleges that up until recently company founder Erik Buell was the worst offender but now company President Jon Flickinger, P&A Guru Bruce Champion and others are also showing up.

quote:

"This is outta control and if Buell continues, we plan to all go in search of another motorcycle company that will ignore our requests, needs and wants....just like they are supposed to."

Efforts, it is reported, to do so have been frustrated in that the names of the executives of other companies are not known to the riding public.

Rudy closed by saying....."our action may or may not proceed depending on the response we get from Buell. But, if they go and give us more power....that's it.....we'll be up in arms.

The statement was presented at a loosely organized group of geographically, culturally and intellectually diverse press conference.

Efforts to reach Erik Buell proved futile as he is apparently in Colorado riding motorcycles with dealers and owners.

I do not get the fact that the xb12ss is not more like the xb12x with the bags and wind screen. Maybe I can but regular forks and shock on the X.

I really like the 2006 bikes. The 12X really look like a very nice "Go anywhere" bike. With great ground clearance, good suspension, bigger gaz tank, hard bags, etc... that's kind of more than what I expected from a Buell Adventure bike. Can't wait to try one! My dealer have a test ride in October. I hope the 12X will be there.

They also did some good improvements on the XB line-up. New intake, transmission, swingarm, new good looking colors, etc...

Good job BUELL!

ps. next year, more power and a sport touring bike Erik ; )

I would bet that grill inlet would attach to the older XB airboxes. A Buell or a American Sportbikes accessory?

I was wondering what the new airbox setup would do in terms of induction noise for EPA testing. Currently with a cut airbox induction is louder than the race pipe.
