Any body know if the 06 XBR/S drive belt will fit on 04 and 05. If so would it need swing arm and hardware replacements. I have an 05 xb12r. Anybody know if the belts on these are any better than the previous belts? I read on posts of the belts breaking all the time.

Well, they said it was 14 pitch, the 05s were 14 pitch so it should fit unless you pick up the belt for the 12 long : )

Nice, I picked up a 2 month old 05 XB12r from a guy with 832 miles on it. I have been deployed to Korea, so I Only rode it 15 miles. I also have an 01 HD Dyna Sport, Never had a problem with it. So I am taking a big plunge on a bike I have wanted for a long time. Thanks

What is the difference between the new belt and the 2005 belts?

So let me get this straight (I'm very slow this morning). All you need is the 06 belt for the 04-05 models? You don't need any pulleys or the 06 swingarm or 06 belt guards? Just need the belt alone right?
If that's the case, I'll order one asap since it's susposed to be mega times stronger and way less prone to user damage (bending & twisting upon removal/install

Metalstorm, it's not likely that the new belt guards will fit the old swing-arm. The new belt, however, will fit the 04 and 05 bikes - not the 03, unless you get the conversion kit which includes and updates set of pulleys and an updated tensioner.

Did I read the Buell site correctly. Did it say that the belt will not require replacing? I thought I saw something like that.

The new belt does not have a suggested replacement interval. That doesn't necessarily mean that it will last for a million miles. The requirement during service checks for the new belt is to inspect it, and if you don't see anything visually wrong, leave it alone. The expectation from Buell is that it will last for a very long time indeed, effectively the life of the bike for many riders. Keep in mind that if Buell were specifying a 25,000 mile change interval for the previous Goodyear belt, they had to be confident that it would actually last quite a bit longer than that. The suggested change interval has to be conservative enough to catch the early failures, and can't come close to representing the mean expected life of a part.

Thanks Dave. I gotta wait a couple weeks before I can order one. I gotta get that Select seat first. Next Friday seat, then in late August I'll be calling you (or e-mailing, or posting) you with a big order. Just waiting on my bonus check from my boss.

Joele,
I'm not interested in the new belt guards. I like the look of the swingarm & belt guards that I already have on my 05. That's why I'm stoked. If I had to swap swingarms & guards to use the new belt I would pass.

I can confirm that the '06 belt fits '04+ bikes because I already have it on mine. : )

What is the difference between the 03 and 04-up sprockets? Is there a different number of teeth? If so will this affect performance?

We have had the full 03-to-04+ kit, minus guards, for some time, with the Diamond Highlight sprocket and chrome bolts instead of the black sprocket/zinc plated bolts. I wouldn't yank a perfectly good belt off an 03, but if your belt service interval is here, I sure would be spending the extra coin to upgrade to the 04+ system. The rear wheel removal simplification alone is worth the price of admission.

NONE of the guards are compatible (upper, lower, front pulley). All must be replaced, although I would say that only the front pulley cover is mandatory to fit.

The G0500.1AAE belt is a running change superceding part. I know the belts we currently have in stock now are the G0500.1AAE versions. Other than what Dave wrote above, I don't have independent verification that the G0500.1AAE equals the new technology belt, but we just got them a couple days ago so I believe Dave is correct.

We are now selling these belts for use on the tubers too. There have been enough installations that seem to be working fine that I'm now comfortable with that recommendation. We don't have lab type testing on it, so we recommend it with some reservation and give people the choice of the old Gates belt or the new belt. Buell won't officially endorse that substitution because they have not tested it, but I know which one I will put on the S1W or S3 when the time comes.

Indy,
The 03 pulleys use a different pitch for the teeth.
The new belts will not fit the 03 pulleys.
Just put the newest rendition of the 03 belt on and don't worry.
I have those in stock too.

I'm wondering, with the longer swingarm for the Ulysses and the stretched Lightning, there must now be two belt sizes? Or did Buell implement two new (larger) sprockets in order to make use of the same belt?

Good question Blake, you got me curious.
Maybe the X & Ss use a smaller idler?
Would that let the same size belt fit both bikes?

'Nonny - I know it's to much to ask and there are other politics involved - but it sure would be nice to have a direct replacement for the '03 belt (minus the new guards & sprockets, etc). Still gotta say it though... That, and another atta-boy on the '06 lineup!
