My buddies XB9s, was running fine the last time he rode it...then, it just started dying....it woudl sit for a few....run...then it would die again...

Well, he let it sit for a while, then went to ride it to where he stores it while underway

He said it kept running, but hesitating...and miss firing anytime he got on the throttle...

Any ideas?

I was thinking about disconnecting the battery, letting it reset(ecm), and going from there...I dontknow what else to do with it...

HELP PLEASE

Plugs, Plug wires? Has he messed with the idle in the left air scoop? Some moron at a dealership messed with my idle setting and it acted similar.

Does it have one of those idiot kickstand switches?
The one on my X1 died at about 25K.

I don't think unplugging the battery will reset anything in the computer.

Idle should be set between 1000 to 1050 rmp

Take a good look at the plugs. If it sits a long period of time between rides, they might be fouled. Or it could be bad gas, give it a good tunning up and probably be fine.

Could it be that horn chafing wire (or whatever it was) that was on a few of the early 9's? Did that blow fuses, or just stall the bike?

Just stall.

I think we are gonna replace the plugs, though it onlyhas a couple k on it...

My first thought was bad gas, knowing how sensitive my X1 is to it...

So...

Other than draining the tank, what can we do(draining isnt an option where the bike is stored)

Kickstand safety switch would be a good easy item to check. Jumper it out and see if the problem continues.

If the bike will run fine in neutral or with the clutch pulled in, but sputters and dies when underway, that sure would be the first thing I'd look at.

That and the chaffed extraneous wire thing that Reep mentioned.

Let us know what you find.

I doubt it is gasoline. If so, it would likely not run at idle either.

Check the simple stuff first...

Kickstand safety switch. : )

So...go there, fired turned it on, fired it up..
started, and died..then, started going through the ecm, light sequence...came up with, 44, 11, 14, Bank angle sensor, TPS, adn ET sensor...

Talked to AL @ American Sport Bike, he said not right, tried shorting it out, nothing...

Ok, check grounds...again...

Ran home, grabbed his new Race ECM, plugged it in, ran it throught eh Diag sequence...

Hmmeverything loks right...(ik didnt think it would even run without the TPS reset... but guess what, it runs, stays running, though wont idle, and it surges...but..

Moral, for some reason, with 2195 on the odo, the ecm wenth south...

Check the wiring harness to the ECM for a very small nick caused where it goes over the sharp edge of the battery terminal. You may have just "unshorted" it when you switched ECM's.
