Black six: Wonderful clips, thank you. "Behind You" -- I think that single low beam head light is going to drive me nuts.

Blacksix,
Good clips. A bit of a rear wheel lockup in Behind you?

Josè, "If the XB pumps out 94 hp per liter, then an 1130 cc version would pump out about 106 crank HP, figure 90 at the wheel. Getting closer....."

You are being very optimistic I think.

bumping up the displacement and getting a HP increase to be the same percentage increase will be tough IMHO.

first the FB has very light pistons to achieve the RPM it gets so a bigger displacement means heaver pistons with lower RPM's and less power per cc.

Than you would have to have a head that flows as well as the FB, which will be hard also.

Not that the powertrain folks can't pull it off but to expect it to be quick and easy is wrong.

I will be surprised if any larger dispalcement bike is unveiled at this years July dealer meeting (I have been wrong before!) EXCEPT if they did like they did the FB for a delivery next spring (which would be a mistake IMNSHO).

We MIGHT see a touring version, and by that I don't think it will be a BMW wannabe more of an XB with a tolerble rear seat and bags useful for a weekend away or the day to day office commute.

Very true Dave, this is pure speculation, I'm just "guessing", but it's based on what Gary Valine wrote in that infamous Exhaustive Measures article for Battletwin back in 1996

Ok lets say the keep the 3.5 inch bore for the reasons you mentioned.

They could increase the stroke back up a bit, to 3.5 inches, so you get 1103 cc's with about 103 hp crank/90 hp at the wheel. Piston speed at this stroke at 7500 rpm is still below 4500 ft/min, so the stock XB valvetrain should do ok. This will vibrate more than an XB9R, but less than our current paint shakers, so it will probably do good with the saddlebags and stuff if a sport touring version comes out.

As long as they can get it past the EPA sound test without having to tune it with a HOLE between 3 and 4 k like every Buell before it, but that's what the "race kit" is for.

Regarding more bore / stroke out of the the XB motor...

One of the EB Nuggets I picked up Monday was that at 7500 RPM the XB motor is not all that stressed.

From that MAYBE one could see that they saw bigger jugs & slugs in the future of that motor and kept it understressed for future expansion.

He also said something about dino vs synth oil in regard to roller bearings... If anyone's curious, ask about it in the Lubrication area...

My opinion is that they shouldn't release a larger displacement until they offer a water-cooled version which would be for sometime (at least a year or two from now) for the reasons stated above. I can see them offer tour models with same engine. I'd imagine better seating and handlebar placement & longer wheelbase would be first for the additional models. This is similar to how the others market their bikes having the air-cooled models in the 900 class while they have water-cooled spread out. I don't want everyone to get into a tiff over my opinions but I'd think adding water-cooled versions will be inevitable.

BTW, my battle blue xb9 er came in yesterday and they're taking it out of the crate today. I'll put some pictures up today. I've been told it won't be ready today but I'm hoping for tomorrow. I'll keep everyone posted. I'm still curious about how to do break-in. I will follow by the book but I've read online to change the oil and filter after 50 miles (while engine is warm) in order to get most of the metal chunks that are too small to stay in filter. I'm debating on this but figure it wouldn't hurt. I would do this in addition to the regular 500 mile change as well. Can't wait.

One more thing!!!!!!

I called BMC yesterday and asked the receptionist when they were suppose to announce the "slay the dragon sweepstakes" winner and she said it was supposed to be on the 20th. She put me on hold and then came back and said that they should have it on their website anytime. She said she would contact me (I don't see this happening) so I gave her my e-mail. I'll post the winner if by chance she email's me before they list it on their site.

The first service is supposed to be @ 1000 miles, according to the Buell Service guy @ Rossiters HDB. I have a filter and oil ready to change @ 4-500 miles. I will probably wait to change the Primary fluid until I get back from NC.

Saro I posted on the Lube board as I am very interested to here EB's comments on the Dino vs. Synth oil issue.

My HD/Buell guy told me to change @ 500 and also told me to vary the rpms and riding like highway and then town. He said everything but redline, but no draggin' or anything like that but to vary it. He was dead set on that along with 500 oil change. He said most Harley's have 1000 but the springer because something about the bearings need to be tightened or something at 500, but definitely 500 for firebolt.

Oh yeah... Here's pics of my f-bolt . The sad part is it won't be ready til Tuesday (they're closed monday)

couldn't get the pics uploaded here with my mac, so here's a link

when I told a buddy at work about the f-bolt not being ready till Tuesday, he said that sounds too much like Ferris Bueller's when the valet guys took out the cobra (or was that something else?).

I could've sworn the headlight/fairing moved with handlebars. Am I mistaken or are they just not done with assembly?

Funny day. . .

I am resigned, last night, to avoid the tunnels and bridges this morning in deference to yesterday's warnings. I vow, instead, to take the Ferry and the Subway to work.

This morning I awake to learn of a "possible terrorist action" to the NYC public transportation system and they are flashing a picture of the 4 Train.

That's it, back to the car. Anyone ever hold their breath for 2.5 miles under water :)

The good news is that the warnings seemed to work, my commute was cut in half and the display of military helicopters hovering over sites like the Empire State Building, The CitiCorp Building (which, as many of you recall, is built on 4 "stilts" and was discovered to be "unstable" after it was built which brought welders, working secretly, under tarps to hide the flash, at night to correct the structural problem) and Grand Central Station.

Visiotronics, is for the first time in NYC, using their digital face mapping system (used at the last Superbowl) to scan the faces of those going onto Liberty Island (the Statue of Liberty remains closed) and make a quick "friend/foe" determination from a database.

As I drove past the United Nations on 1st Avenue, it is surrounded by dump trucks filled with sand once more and the men standing on the bridges wearing the dark glasses are talking into thier hands.

It's a beautiful day here, but make no mistake about it, this is a war.

Makes Berthoud, CO look damned appealing :)

That's your daily report from Neeeeeeeeeeeeeew York City
