Hi, I'm currently the owner of an SV650, and when i was at laguna for motogp i sat on a CityX and was really impressed. I found the seat comfortable and everything looked to be well situated for me. Since then i've been doing some serious research on the bike and have been really impressed with the thought Erik Buell put into this bike. All of the features are great everyday use items that make for a perfect street bike. Especially the belt drive with tensioner.

to put it mildly i'm infatuated with this bike. I'm going for a test ride sometime soon.

So a couple of questions for you board members. Reliability wise how is the motorcycle? I've heard bad stuff as well as that mostly being in the past. User experiences good or bad would be appreciated.

How do you like your CityX? Great for commuting and plowing around?

My SV was the perfect bike up until i came across this marvel. I'm still amazed it gets similar gas mileage to my bike if not better.

So please lay it all on my I want everything. Oh, and sorry for not searching first links would also be helpful.

I love my XB9SX. I have 5,800 miles since December 2004 and the only problem that I had was a slight oil seep on the primary cover. It was fixed with a new seal - $5 at most. This thing is so much fun to drive. Take one for a test drive, and I'll bet that you'll be hooked, just like I was.

Edit: Spelling.

I've owned my City X since Nov 2004. I now have 12,200 miles on it.

Only had two very minor problems. Front break light switch is dead (getting fixed under warranty) and my starter switch got a small bit of corrosion that I cleaned off.

I think the review from the link posted by Kaz5150 is very good.

I have my 9SX since March 2005 with around 4000 km on it. Not one problem, the bike make me grin every time I ride it. I use it to go to work almost every day. It's so much fun in the city.

The only complaint is the rear fender!

a bit over 2,000 miles since December 2004; (rode to work today, 25 mi each way) and I still cant wait to get on the bike for each ride. My poor Beemer is really jealous, and it will be furious Thursday, because I'm taking the CityX to the National BMW Rally....I have had no problems with the bike that were not owner-induced.

Bought my 9sx late last fall, and have close to 6000 miles on it already. I could not be happier with the thing.

Reliability has been outstanding. I had an M2 (the old tube framer), and that is where the reliability concerns came from. People complaining missed the forest for the trees (the M2 was unreliable, but not that bad, and WELL worth the trouble), but they had a point.

The 9sx has, to date, been virtually perfect. The tach needle will occasionally not sweep all the way over on the initial bike "boot up", but it always works perfectly otherwise.

Some of the fasteners get some surface corrosion (I ride through the winter) but nothing structural, and I only notice them when going at the bike for cleaning with a toothbrush (usually after the thing is caked head to toe with mud from some ride in the rain including gravelly muddy roads).

I have ridden several SV-650's, fixed one, and steered a friend to buy one, and would do so again. For the price, they are an outstanding motorcycle. The 9sx is a far better motorcycle, for more money. If you tried to "upgrade" an SV to be competitive with the 9sx out of the showroom, the XB then becomes the "cheaper" bike.

You will loose a little range with the 9sx (have to stop for gas more often), but get much better handling, especially in sub-optimal road conditions, and have a bike that allows corrections to your line much better (and the SV is no slouch in that regard in the first place).

The SV probably makes a better track bike, but that has more to do with how cheaply you can wreck it then it does with how the bike rides.

And for lack of a better term, the XB is just more interesting. The sound of the engine, the look of the bike, the low end grunt, all the technology that permeates the design, is all stuff that I appreciate more and more every day.

The SV's always were and always will be a wonderful practical bike, and I will continue to recommend them to friends whom I think they will fit, but they don't do a lot to stir me at an emotional level. Every time I look at the 9sx, my eyes just linger appreciating it.

I have had my CityX for almost 2 months, and I have as many miles on it as I did on my VRod in 2 years: 3,000. I commute 50 miles to work, and more on the way home : ). I did have a coil crack around 1,500 miles, no idea why. The 2 year warranty is real nice.

Like Reep, I went from an M2 to the CityX. Bought my CityX in April and have never regretted the switch. The CityX has been rock-solid reliable and is a hoot to ride. At times I wish the CityX had more wind protection, but that is a minor issue. It never keeps me from hopping on and going for a ride. I don't think you can go wrong with the CityX.

I have a 2003 XB9S with a city cross seat.
So does that count?

Buell as a company and as a bike can turn on
a dime. That's why I think they will be
a viable bike maker for years to come.

And as fuel gets more and more expensive people
will start looking for more miles per gallon.

EMSCityX, we have got to get our bikes side by side some day! You have Ohio plates CityX, I have Ohio plates XB9SX.

It'd be a cool shot from the rear. I am coveting your tail bag also, it looks a LOT nicer then my $9 wal mart backpack bungeed back there.

I'm also "infatuated" with the SX.

Been riding the SX for about two months and have been using it for my 10mile surface street commute almost daily. I'm VERY happy with the performance of it thus far. The bike stops on a dime and loads of torque for quick burst passing and stop light hole shots.

My previous bike was a gsf400, completely different style bike. No issues yet.. *knock-on-wood*

I know I don't have a 9SX, but even on my 12R I have a problem with the rear hugger(doesn't get me, but soaks my tailbag). I know that somewhere I've seen an extended hugger, not sure if it was a sponsor or not, but that would be a good investment if you're going to ride in the rain and muck a lot. I haven't got one because I haven't been in the rain enough to justify it, but just so you know it's out there and might make a great bike even better.

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. I'll go check one out, i'm really curious as to how they ride.

Couple of nagging spec problems for me, 7500rpm redline? bother any of you guys? and no sixth gear?!?! I guess you don't need it.

but once again thanks for all the great responses, keep them coming.

I think I've only hit redline once.....you have plenty of power and torque in the lower RPMs.

No problem at all with the low redline. The bike makes great usable power from idle on up. Ditto the 5 speed, the ratios are great, no need to go rowing the gearbox.

I hit redline under hard acceleration all the time, thats how I know to shift : )

I don't have the SX but do have a 12R. Coming from Suzuki sport twins (99 SV650, then a 97TLS and just sold my 03 SV1KS - combined 31k miles on all 3 bikes) I had all the same questions and concerns about the XB's - 7k redline, no sixth gear, air-cooled, single front disc, reliability, blah, blah, blah. I absolutely LOVE my black beastie! I bought it in March with 950 miles on it and have put a little over 3k on it since. I ride it every day it's not pouring buckets. I think you will find that the bike will live up to your expectations and more. After riding both the 9R and 9S before I bought my 12R, my impression was that they felt very much like the SV650 but with better sound and more power. I say go for it!!
