I have a 03 XB9R stock. I did the 5,000 inspection according to the SM and everything was fine.

Closing in on the 7500 mark and reviewing the things I need to do then and also looking at what I will need to do at the 10,000 mark according to the SM as well. Currently the bike is running great...

According to the SM the 10,000 mile inspection calls for an inspection of the primary shoe. Did you do it? If so what shape did you fine it in? Was it in spec or did it need to be replaced?

Also, did you check the ignition timing? What did you find?

Finally, did you do the Zero TPS? If so did you do it or did you take it to the dealer?

hey truck, I haven't done my 10k yet. I plan on doing it when I get home in a month. However, when I was at 9000 miles, I did get a chance to see the shoe on my 12. It looked almost brand new(had a thin gauge across it. I suspect the shoe will wear out more rapidly if the chain tension is set too loose. As for the tps reset, you will either have to buy the equiptment to reset it yourself, or take it to the dealer.
I will probably do a lot of the basic stuff myself, and have the dealer do the shock oil, and tps.

Yes. Barley out of spec at 12,763 miles.

If you are going to the trouble of removing the cover to check the shoe wear, may as well buy a new shoe and install it while your in there...not expensive, and you've got the cover off anyways...
Had the dealership adjust the timing/TPS...timing was out a couple degrees.

flick: if your timing was out a couple degrees, then it had to have been born that way from factory.... unless someone else monkeyed with it. dont think the timing can change itself. does the bike run any different with the adjustment?

Fullpower - you are addressing a question I am indirectly asking. If the TPS is set properly, what cause it to change and need to be reset? Same question with electronic ignition timing??? As already mentioned my engine is running great

Flick - I was already leaning in that direction, but I was wondering if it really needed to be check and changed out to begin with at 10,000... I have kept the Primary adjusted. Will probably ordre one thru daves along with the gasket and at least have it on hand.

Daves - if you are listening, how much is the shoe?

Normal wear and tear to bearings/bushings/etc as I understand it. Maybe degradation of the potentiometer as well?
