I am in the market for a new tire set, (since the stock dunlops are almost toast... less then 3000 miles on them) I have been reading other tire posts and a lot of people seem to like the pirellis and/or the Michelin Pilots etc... but has anyone ever tried these tires? http://www.competitionaccessories.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=8894 They seem to be every bit as good as other brands, and best of all... they are made in different colors! I have a friend that put a yellow one on his GSXR, but I don't know how he feels about it. I only was out with him while he was still breaking it in. I know that it got black really fast though. The sidewalls and the chicken strips stayed yellow. | ||

My understanding is that they are retreads. I would not put retreads on my bike, ever been behind a big truck when the tread comes off? | ||

They are ALL retreads - so I would ONLY buy them for the bling value and not expect them to handle the same way from one set to the next. I haven't heard any reports of them blowing apart - just unpredictable and inconsistent handling. | ||

Killboy.com had a set on a 600 inline four. Not a disaster, but nothing special either. Somebody here tried them, and it was a mess cosmetically. The black original tire showed through in many places making the coloring uneven. It would be novel though. | ||

No, I hear ya. I was just flippin through a magazine and they caught my eye. I have not seen anyone around here with anything like it, so it's not like I am following a fad. All I know is, I hated the VERY short tread life on the Dun 207... so I am looking into all other alternatives. | ||

People always say "retreads" and nothing else, but theres different ways to "retread" a tire and from what I read the process tomahawk uses is the same process they use to "retread" tires used on big old 747s etc, not SEMIs. So if it's good enough to handle the load of a full 747 landing on the run way, it might not be as bad as some believe when they think of retreads for Semi trucks. All that said, I still dont think I would try 'em. | ||

The tires on semi trucks come apart because of uneven tire pressure between the tandem tires. Not so much because they are retreads per say, or so I've been told. | ||

Man, am I ever glad that someone asked this question. I woulda posted this a lot sooner but I can't come to grips with the search engine on this site and I wanted to include a link to my origonal post on the subject. I got the blue ones on my CityX several months ago and posted picks and stuff about them. Koz said he had a bad experience with them but I took a wait and see attitude. I didn't have to wait long. The sidewalls ain't blue anymore. They started turning black about 2 months ago. The tyres are now actually three tone if you count the 1/4" or so of chicken strip. That part is now more of a teal color. Lets even Grand Mumaw know I ain't got the bottle for steaming into corners. So, as far as looks are concerned, they won't for long. In case you've come to grief with the search feature as I have, I would like to remind you that it took no fewer than 12 wheel weights to balance the front wheel. Even with that, I get an ugly headshake when I shift my body for curves. So I don't, much.(For more info, see above comments regarding chicken strips) Please don't buy these tyres unless it's for a static display. Indoors. I'd like to thank Koz for trying to set me straight earlier. I should have listened, bud. Bob PS: I ordered a replacement Pirelli through my dealer over a month ago and it ain't been seen yet. Do you supposed Buell fired him and ain't told him yet? |
