I need to know what I would expect to pay at a dealership to have my 5K service done. I'm switching to HD synthetic in the engine and primary, and then all of the regular 5K service stuff. My friend is a tech and he has agreed to do the service for me, but I would like to know what kind of money I'm saving. Thanks! |

Well, this should put your mind at ease - my 12R is in today for it's 5k service and switching over to full synth should run me around $300. Ok, ok, let the comments fly, but for me, it's peace of mind to know it's being done correctly and if there's a problem, I have the dealership to blame and not mechanically inept me. I am just a rider not a wrencher! |

So I should expect to pay less than $300. Do you know how much of that is labor? I'm paying my friend $30 an hour instead of the $65 a dealer charges. |

I'm guessing 2.5 to 3 hours of labor. The going rate here in South Florida is $74/hr. Was the same at my Suzuki dealership for my SV 1000S. |

Yup. $300 is about right. That's what I paid too. |

I'll chime in tomorrow...I have my 5K service on Friday at 5:00. $60/hr labor at my dealer. |

Thanks guys! I just want to make sure I'm actually saving some money. If the price is pretty similar I might as well just have a dealer do the service. I'm going to call the guy today to find out what my total price is going to be. |

For some reason, my 5k service only took 1 hour. The total charge was $87.98, but I only paid $27.98 because I had a free labor coupon from buying my motorcycle there. |

All that checking can be fairly time consuming. That kinda service runs about $280AUD. |
