I installed my race pipe/filter/ecm and had the dealer reset the TPS. I don't think they disconected the battery though. Was reading on another board that you need to do that, but it's the first I hear of doing that.

Should I disconect the positive for 15 mins and then take it cruising at 3500 rpm for 1/2 an hour to reset all the fuel maps? Will i need to reset the TPS again if I do that?

I've been riding it for a few days since installing the race kit and it definitely seems schitzo compared to before (backfiring loud on decelleration, dead feeling between 2500 and 4000 rpm). It still rips at higher RPM though.

No need to disconnect. Just ride ride at constant throttle at ~3500 for a few minutes.(no need for a half hour)

Ok thanks, I don't think I've ever ridden at constant throttle (living and riding in NYC). Guess I better head upstate and find a highway!

that is common from what ive seen with the buell race pipe

the dead spot should not be there

The dead spot is normal on a race pipe.

I have a 12S with the race kit... We disconnected the battery for safety reasons. I have no idea if it made any difference but, the bike did behave a bit funky at first. The more you ride it, the better it runs. A steady throttle, as stated earlier, is correct and vital if ya want yer bike to run right...

My bike does not backfire and does not have a dead spot. I have found that fuel injected bikes need to be run a little different than carbed bikes... The EFI works closely with the EMC... so when the Buell engineers tell ya to run the bike at a steady throttle at a given rpm range, they have a good reason. They torture these bikes during development... and they also find out how to make them run right. With the backing of HD money, Buell has moved into the modern, engine management age.

Well I went out for a three hour ride last night, mostly on empty country roads and about an hour of highway riding. Steady throttle (no wheelies ). It's running a lot better now, and has a cool rumble when i decel (instead of the severe backfiring at first). Thanks for the advice guys, I guess I just need to take my citycross OUT of the city to get it to run right.

Also, I got the right side air scoop, and the fan didn't come on AT ALL on my ride last night (low 80s and humid). Not even when I stopped and parked it - I'm a very happy camper right now!
