Got it painted and it's drying right now. I used Dupli Color Engine paint rated for 1200F. I know I know, overkill, but heck, might as well use something that can handle abuse.

Sadly, I can't test it until either monday or sunday. I work all weekend so I might not get much free time to play around with it. Figure, in the mean time I can add some extra coats of paint to it.

You should do before and after measurements of both heads if you can. If I ever try the larger right scoop I intend to use a remote temp gun that way to see what the actual difference is.

Wish I had something to check the temps. Best thing I can use is the fan and if it runs while moving anymore. I plan to take it onto the interstate and run the bike at 80-85mph for a good 20 miles or more. That always get's the fan going. Then take it onto city streets. I'll report back once this is done.

You will be happy with the highway test for sure. Depending on how slow the city traffic is, the scoop may not help. You DO have to be moving for it to grab some air.

I just got mine thursday and painted it and ran a few laps around town and the fan almost never comes on I'm so glad i bought it

I still can't tell if mine is coming on while on the highway - The D&D is so damn loud! The 1200 degree paint is holding up pretty well - good choice Cataract2.

Well, I'm back from running around. Here's my report.

Interstate speeds 70-85mph. Fan still runs. I can say that once your off the interstate it doesn't run as long as it use to. I went for 20 minutes and when I got off it was running but quit after only about 2 minutes. It's better, but not where I wanted it to be which was for the fan to not be running.

Highway speeds 55-70mph. Not running from what I can tell. I took US 1 back and kept around 65mph and no signs of the fan running.

City 45-55mph. Not running. Normally it doesn't run at all unless your in stop and go, but even then I found it to not be running.

Hard riding (WOT) no fan. I pushing the bike hard in a few spots on the highway getting the rpm all the way up to 6500 and couldn't get the fan on. I'm going to test this on another day and report back though. Just for fun....

Overall fit and finish is good. Just make certain you put the inside top screw in first or it's a pain to get in.

Price $220 when I bought it. I feel this is way to high for it. Especially since it did not help with interstate speeds the way I was hoping it would. My feelings, if you do a lot of interstate travel then this would help, but only so much. Highway and city it helps a lot. Also hard riding. So, overall, if you want something to help with cooling get this, just have some deep pockets. It does help balance the bike out a lot though in the looks department.

Ted: It's fiberglass.

Fullpower: I don't think the cooling is inadequate for 70mph. Being we have the fan to cover that. I'm just trying to keep the fan from running so much to help extend it's life a bit. I prefer to also keep the fan as a last resort kinda thing. Never had any cooling problems though. I'll get a pic later and post it up.

I think the scoop helps keep it cooler in the seat department while riding the highway - that was my objective. I could care less if the fan runs, personally.

Scoop looks like it was always there. Nice job. I agree with the cost obversation... but I'm still leanin' towards buying one... fickle, I guess.

Off subject a bit... How do you like your tires? They're Avon Scorpion Sync? I'm fishin' here...

Off subject a bit again... Rode with several members of the White Mt. Thunder Club this past Sunday. Took backroads up, around, and over mountains, past lakes... all the while doin' 60-70mph. Could count the # of cars on one hand. Very much fun was had. Still grinnin' like a loonie...

I understand being averse the the noise of the fan, especially when stopped. But wanting your XB's fan to "never" run is like wanting the water pump in your car to never run. This ain't your daddy's air cooled motorcycle. The Buell XB uses a ducted forced air cooling system.

What would be interesting to me would be to experiment with different possibly quieter types of fans. I still think that some form of squirrel cage fan would provide a nice quite yet still powerful flow of cooling air.

I think the bike is cooled just fine at 70, but its at 20mph in hot summer traffic that I'm a little more concerned with...

I did mine in gloss black krylon plastic fusion paint looks real good did all the scoops that way, I to would like a bigger oil cooler or scoop.

At a steady 70mph on the Motorway (Freeway) I am surprised that the fan would come on at all unless in very hot and humid weather. The idea of the scoop is to keep the engine, and particularly the rear cylinder, cooler at all speeds and I think that judging by these comments and others received from customers that it does just that.
The price issue is one that we really can't do anything about at the moment simply because of exchange rates. These are manufactured for us in Germany, shipped to the UK and then shipped to the US. That is 3 currency conversions: (
The current price for the scoop in glassfibre should be around US$190 plus the shipping of around US$27.

Out of interest, we removed the fan completely on our race bike and fitted a bigger oil cooler. Admittedly we were never in a stop start traffic situation though: )

My fan has not come on since I installed the right side scoop. Hottest day has been around 75 and longest ride a hard 45 miler.

They're the Pirelli Scorpion Sync. Love them. Since Florida doesn't have many curves I need a tire that will hold up longer. My last rear lasted about 8500 miles before changing. Plus their wet traction is the best I've felt. I've taken them on what curves we do have here and they stick very well. Good sport touring tire.

I understand this. My goal wasn't to totally remove the fan from the equation. Just get it so it's used less. Like when I turn the bike off or in stop and go. Just trying to reduce the use of it to increase it's life a bit.
