I have tried every possible setup for the rear suspension on my XB9SX and the conclusion is the spring of the rear shock is too stiff for me.

I weight only 160 and at the softer position I can't get the proper sag. When I hit a bump in a curve (we got a lot of them here in Quebec), the rear lost contact with the road and skip a few inches (maybe not that much) from the right trajectory.

So, I'm looking for a softer spring. Buell don't make other spring. We have Showa component on our bikes, maybe we can have it from Showa or for a jobber that make replacement parts for Showa. Anyone know if it's available somewhere?

What are your other suspension settings at? Check the compression and rebound settings.

Your compression setting is too high if your skipping across the bumps.

I tried many settings. Right now I have the spring to the softer adjustment, position 1, the rebound to 1,75 and compression to 2,25.

I even tried everything to the lowest position and it still skipping across bumps......

You can purchase a lighter spring weight spring from Hyperpro. Are you adjusting the front suspension as well as the rear?

The front setup is great. I used a click softer than the spec for my weight in the owner's manual and it fell right. I really have hard time to setup the rear. Roads are really rough here and I really think I need a softer spring.

When I ride on a good condition roads, the current setup is nice. But unfortunately, we don't have the same roads condition than you have in th US.....

I'll check at Hyperpro, thanks.

Here is a good page for troubleshooting suspension.

Stou, you may have a combination of "LACK OF REBOUND DAMPING (REAR SHOCK)" & "TOO MUCH COMPRESSION DAMPING (REAR SHOCK)"

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here but the preload adjustment effects sag more than anything else. It shouldn't really make a huge impact on the stiffening or softening the spring. I'd put the preload back up where it should be & turn your compression out some more & maybe rebound out a wee bit.
Maybe try compression at 2 3/4 out from full in & rebound at 1 1/2 out from full in. At 160 lbs, having the rear preload down at the lowest setting will effect handling for the worse.

You did turn the adjustment screws all the way in until they were gently seated before turning them out to the manual specs right?
Silly question I know but I was surprised to find out how many people overlook this.

Tpoppa, thanks for the link. Interesting information.

Metalstorm, I tried the lowest setting once to see the difference and how it react. Like I wrote earlier, I don't have this setting now.

And yes.... I did the setup correctly as indicated in the manual. Turn the screws clockwise until seated and then turn them out to the spec.
