I bought the Vehicle Diagnostic Scan Tool Software (VDSTS) so I could do my own services. I plugged it in to use it and had a few problems getting it to communicate and figuring it out. Suggestion from the BadWeB was to download and update the newest software/dongle from www.technoresearch.com.

I did that and now when I try to use it, it gives me a "Dongle Error Message" and then disconnects. Then it tells me that the "ECM is not responding". It goes through this about 3 times, then will not connect at all. I reloaded the software it came with and haven't had any better results.

Anyone else have a similar experience?

The best trouble shooting advise you will get is from Giamberto at Techno Research.
He will walk you thru it.

"did you turn the ignition on???"

Yes, and I tried it with the run switch in both positions.

Race_Pirate, I'm not stupid in case you were wondering. From my previous post (that you responded to) you should remember that I had it working because I was able to see my TPS voltage, just couldn't figure out how to reset it.

I just can't get it to connect/work anymore.

phantom: the dongle is a finicky creature. sometimes(usually) it works right the first time, then somtimes it doesnt want to play anymore. sometimes it likes to be unplugged, and the techno program restarted, and then sometimes it will work again. also, immediately after connecting, and then resetting TPS, you need to RECONNECT in order to use the throttle angle function, because the program will disconnect itself after each operation... sort of an annoyance. and then, sometimes, after consultation with Giamberto, you will have to send the dongle back to michigan to have the electrons flushed and cleaned.this service is pretty quick, and (sometimes) the dongle will work better.

I wasnt being condescending, As I stated I did not read the instructions, plugged in and got the same error message. I then turned the ignition on got it to connect then turned the ignition off not being sure and to be safe as not to cook the coil. Last try for me was all ignition on and kill switch on. It then worked. If anyone is stupid it was me for not reading the instructions.... I did notice that after each screen or switching views from gauges to bars I needed to hit the recconnect button. Just trying to help...sorry.

No problem, I'm just frustrated, which is probably making me overly sensitive and cranky.

I feel like less of a man when my dongle isn't working. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with this problem, I was so ashamed.

I'm going to retry it tonight when I get home from work. Hopefully if I run into a problem Giamberto will still be at work to help.

Mine worked, than stopped. I sent it back and got a new one that works with both the PDA and PC/laptop. Works like a charm now.

The I must have been in the favor of the Dongle God last night because I tried it last night when I got home from work, and didn't have a single problem. Connected on the first try and continued to connect every time thereafter.

sure wish I had read this post before I bought the techno scanner. I spent 300.00 bucks on something that needs to work when I need it the most. Not something that needs to be sent off to have something worked on before I can use it.

And how often will I have to ship the scanner back to get it fixed?

I think I want a refund.

I urge those with problems to contact Technoresearch.

Bud, I mean the new generation ... one dongle works with PDA's and PC's/laptops.

The first was of the first generation and it did work. After a few months I wanted to help a friend out it stopped working.

For how long the new one works I don't know, time will tell.
