By the way you have to highlight and copy into a new page the links above. For some reason it didn't go "blue" all the way across.

You have to cut and past the whole thing and place it in your address bar. As the hyperlink doesn't cover it all. Thats what his second post was saying

I don't trust those URL's. When trying to access just plain ole www.diff.ru/ you get an access denied message. Trust a Russian URL at your own peril.

And primarily, BadWeB will not support the distribution of bootleg illegal manuals. Don't be a thief; pay the paltry price for a manual that is well worth the investment. You cheap bastards.

First thing I bought after my bike (03xb9s) was the SM.But I wish I had one on disk so I could print out what I needed when working on it so not to mess up book.To do some of the work you have to moveing around in it with dirty hands. Just my 2cents.

Except I'm sure it won't be free...so those of us that have already purchased the hard copy will have to re-purchase the digital copy?

That sucks...

Why do you say that?

I ask this question seriously. Do you think Buell should NOT bring service manual info to it's customers online JUST to not anger those who have paid?

I ask because no one would be more upset that I who have (and have purchased MOST at retail by the way) EVERY manual Buell has ever published.

I've got close to $2,000 in Buell manuals but welcome progress.

I'd be genuinely interested in opinions on this.

Are the service- and parts manual officially for sale from buell electronically or will they be?

I just hope you can search for keywords ... not like that current amateur pdf which has scanned all text as bitmap and is not indexed.

There, at present, are no electronic versions available.

However, and this is pure suposibilitasiousness on my part, given the interest expressed and the way Buell has been responding to customer interests, I'd certainly think it possible. There will be some logistical and political hurdles, none insurmountable

I agree with XB9ser about wanting to just print off the page I need. I have an electronic manual for my Jeep Wrangler & love it. If I am working on the rear axle I print off the pages I need. I'll be buying a repair manual for my XB9SX here shortly. I like to learn about what ever I am driving at the time.

I'd like a digital manual so that I could do topic/word searches and save myself a little time, plus wear and tear on my manual. The book manual would still be the shop tool (anyone w/ a clean manual isn't really using it!)but a digital version would supremo for trouble-shooting and looking things up.

a searchable pdf would be very useful, could be an add-on when you buy the paper version.

Court - I just meant that if they were to have electronic copies (like on cd) that they would be charging for them. If they do (like they should) then I probably won't buy one. I'll use my book before I pay another $30 - $40 for an electronic manual. I think it would be a good step to do (offer hard copy or electronic versions). Would I be pissed off at Buell for it? No way, I'd be enthusiastic about the change. Would I wish it had happened sooner? Of course. But that's the way things are...better stuff always comes along right after you buy yours, right?

I want an electronic one too, and I would pay through the nose for a searchable index, but it'll never happen. There is no way to prevent copying digital media, as evidenced by the CD's on eBay. The only way I could ever imagine them doing it would be online, perhaps logging in with your VIN or BRAG number, and who wants to wait on the internet?

i'll suggest that they put a coupon/voucher for a disc version in the manual. it probably cost them a dollar to produce a disc, and they could just encrypt so it can't be copied.

If someone already has the hardcopy SM they could always just make a copy on a scanner, or xerox and then they'd have a printed off version that they could get as grimy as they needed and wouldn't have to ruin the 50+$ Buell manaul .02 and some change.

Sorry, Ivershay, but anything that can be read, can be copied. Sometimes the first copy is complicated, but it only takes one punk kid and then it's out there.
If Buell's gonna do it, they need the protection to be on their side of the pipe, where they can control it. I like your idea of a magic number that comes with the book as a login.
I also like the idea of raising the bike's price by $50 and giving the manual away. There'd be no market for pirates, and it would go a long way towards safety and brand loyalty.

Being able to log in with my valid VIN to have access to an online manual would be really nice. Or even being able to purchase a subscription for a week, a month or a year at a time would be just as awesome. I have done repairs for people in my driveway by buying a weeks subscription to some of the online manual services available, it has saved some friends hundreds of dollars in shop repairs that they just couldn't afford. I would definately purchase a manual on CD, as long as it came from Buell.

AAAAArgh! I'm sick and freak'n tired of waiting. Wait for the '06 models, wait for the stupid red light to change, wait for the digital version, waitwaitwait. I demand instant gratification and I demand it NOW!

Sorry, just had to let that out.

That's one of the things that so amazes me about my city brethern, they wait in line for everything they do. Go to the bathroom, stand in line. DMV, ditto. Rush hour? Good resturant? Fast Food? New movie? This list is endless. I wonder if anyone has figured out how much time urban folks spend waiting?

I was really interested to see that Buell used to have the S1 manual on-line in PDF format. In fact, I believe you still download it from the archive of the ~1996 Buell website at the Internet Archive (see recent thread I started on the Quickboard).

That was a pretty cool thing, especially back then. Of course, considering most people had dial-up modems back then the manuals and ~8 MB videos must have taken forever to download.

I've often thought it would be really cool if DaveS could have on-line Buell parts manuals (with on-line ordering capability) like some of the Japanese dealers have (Parts Fish.com, Ron Ayers, etc.).

I have often thought about going to online ordering but it is just so impersonal.
I like talking to all of you when you call to order stuff!
Maybe someday I will be forced to but not yet.

Dave,
I know it has been hard sometimes to get ahold of you. Online ordering would be a great help to the customers.
And one of those assitance pop-ups "talk to Daves live", click and your phone rings.

Once you have ordered once from me I have all your info in our system.
Then just shoot me an email saying what you want and to put it on your card. Lots of people do that all the time.
Kind of like online ordering?
I do like the "talk to Dave" idea and if I ever go to online ordering I will try to include that feature!
