So I filled my new 12s up tonight for the second time until the gas came up to that ring down in the tank. A little bit leaked out into the other level which I'm not sure if it was bad or not. Hopefully you all know what I am talking about. Now after I came home and parked it, gas is dripping out the hose that exits at the bottom of the frame on the left side. Why is this happening? Did I overfill it? Thanks.

Chase

The same happens on my 12R if I fill it up to the bottom of the ring. What happens is, the frame heats up and the fuel expands and bubbles over until I can run about 15-20 miles and lower the fuel level. Now when I fill my tank, I usually try and stop about an inch below the ring. Welcome to the quirky but wonderful world of the Buell XB!!

If you're going to go home and park it just remember to give it some space. The fuel expands as it gets hot (the very property that makes it good for use as fuel : )). If your going to ride for a while though, go ahead and fill it to the lower ring.

What M1 said. Remember the fuel is quite cool underground and will expand more than you expect.
BUT!!!!!!
If you have the California model with the carbon cannister the excess fuel will go there until next start up. If it's too much the O2 sees super rich & the ECM backs the injectors down as far as it can and the bike cuts out bad and throws a trouble code. No biggie just ride through it and the bike will run fine after a while. I did it in the middle of Death Valley last summer and for a bit thought I was in DEEP trouble.
