Harley Screaming eagle, Mobil 1 gear oil, castrol 5w50 have all been in the primary of my 9sx. All feel great.

Mobil 1 gear oil was a HUGE improvement over the Sport Trans in my previous tuber (M2).

Here is a question with the primary oil... Since my 9R is my first bike ever... how do I change the primary oil? I do most of the maintenance myself, but I do not know how to change that.

best thing to do is call Dave for a service manual. The manual shows a diagram on where to fill it up to.

Drain your primary from the drain screw on the bottom, while you are in there adjust your primary chain to the specs. Fill your oil up to the golden ring on your clutch hub, takes almost a quart of oil.

To change the primary oil -

Place short 2X4 under the kickstand. Remove the clutch cover (the large one on the left side). Remove the drain bolt. Manually level the bike (be careful if it's windy). Let all of the oil drain. Clean the magnet on the drain plug. replace drain plug. If you have drained the oil all the way (by leveling the bike) then it will take one full quart. You will find that if you level the bike, it will take one full quart every time to bring the oil level up to the proper spot (which is illustrated very nicely in the manual... Get one). Too much oil and the bike will shift funny. Too little oil and the bike will shift funny among other things : ).

Get a manual : ). It's worth it's weight in gold. All of our sponsors have good prices : ).
