Candy,
The TPS is essentially a switch that tells the ECM how much throttle you are giving the bike, and uses the signal that the TPS sends to adjust the fuel flow etc. to the bike. The only thing you really need to worry about with the TPS is having it zeroed at the service intervals the manual states. This is to accomodate for any wear in the throttle/FI system.

To adjust the idle, from pg. 1-40 of the 2004XB9S service book, the idle adjuster is behind the left fork (right fork when you are looking at the front of the bike) next to the air scoop. My guess is turning the adjuster clockwise will increase your idle speed, counterclock wise will decrease the idle speed. Haven't had to adjust mine, but I'd bet this is the case.

Good luck, let us know if this fixes your problem.s

Alex, that's correct. Looking from front of bike, clockwise will increase the idle speed, counterclockwise will decrease idle speed. I forget what size allen the screw is.

Candy, its superEasy to adjust your idle, only needs VERY slight turn to increase or decrease. Revv it up and let it fall a few times and get it to land at 1050. Do this when your bike is good and warm too. Not cold.

I have a 2003 XB9R and even when new it has idled in the 800/900 rpm range, I've had the dealer adjust the idle and I have also adjusted the idle a few times and it always eventually returns to the 800/900 rpm range. I have a little over 24000 miles and it has never had any drivability problems or TPS issues as a number of people here complain about. You can adjust it as stated in the posts above but as you stated "it runs good all the way up" I would leave it alone until you have have a real problem.

There is an old saying
If it aint broke, dont fix it.

As long as you dont lug or delay when starting, then dont worry about it. It sounds like the bike runs perfect.

800-900RPM seems awful low to me.. .

My idle dropped to ~900RPM today after a few hours of tuning, when i went to accelerate from a light that was on a hill things went sour fast. quick clutch and a revv brought things up proper but I got scared with the cagers behind me rarein' to go. Not a condition I want prevalent when in traffic thats for sure.

Two minutes with an allen wrench and all is well.
