It's time for my 1000 mile service. The local dealership is about 1 hour away, and when I called last week they told me they can't get to my bike for almost 3 weeks from when I called. I want to go to Laconia next weekend, and they told me they couldn't possibly get it done before then. On top of all that they charge over $250 for the service! So I needed to make an executive decision to do the service myself. I figure I can buy the scan/diagnostic tool (to reset the TPS), the service manual, filter and all the fluids for about that price and I'll be able to do them forever. Anyone know where the best place to buy the manual, scan/diagnostic tool and a filter is? Who has the best prices with the fastest shipping? |

Hey phantom unfortunatly bike week is not good for getting service scheduled at Merideth HD/Buell (Laconia) however it is usually a lot less than the service costs at other New England HD/Buell dealers. Also the guy in all New England that really Knows Buells works there Ask for Dave in Parts if you get to Laconia. I live in Maine and have my service done there and The Big moose HD/Buell is only 20 mins from me. |

The only reason I could see going to the dealer to do it is to get the TPS reset, but if can afford the tool to reset it , I say do it yourself. Not only will you know that it was done right. Thats part of the fun of owning a motorcycle is doing your own maint. |

Amen Jed. Phantom, I was taken for that much $$$ on my 1000 mi. service and vowed to myself I would never do it again. (I guess I was being ultra anal about my spankin' new 2 wheeled friend.) Keep all of your receipts for your oil, parts, etc. and if you hit any snags along the way, you're only 1 thread/search away from the answer on this site. |

"On top of all that they charge over $250" Try $334.00 for a first service where I live. Before a lot of you get dropped jaw syndrome take into consideration that I live in an area where everything is way way way more expensive than it should be. It's a local economy thing. Daves, I tried 866-757-6151 no luck, some nice lady I talked to was not so nice when I tried the number a second time figuring I dialed it wrong. I think I woke her up, oops. I'll try your cell in a few hours, must be a different time zone, and I don't feel like waking anyone else up today. |
