I've been running DCPR9EIX Iridiums for about 9 months now w/o any problems. The are the proper plug, but one heat range cooler. Cost is between $6.00 and $7.00 per plug.

Some plugs are hotter sparking then other. The heat ranges is different in different types of plugs. The stock one are a ac delco or ford plug not sure which of the company makes them for Harley .I'm sure the heat range is lot low then the pro-series or iriudim plugs.
I found that my stock plug were to cold and foul.I went with with the buell pro-series do to it was a hotter plug and it counters fouling. My popping is pretty much gone.

Max,

Some plugs are hotter sparking then other.

Negative. A different heat range of plug does not fire 'hotter' than a similar plug of cooler heat range. You're right about the fouling part though, and on the flip side, if you were getting alot of pinging, a cooler plug may be better suited in your bike. I just wanted to clarify on that.

Mine has had the stock item in it for 18 months now and I have yet to have any of these rumoured fouling problems etc.

It has to do with how much heat the plug holds. I went to cooler to combat pinging. The only reason to run a hotter plug is to combat fouling.

Personally I think the stock plug is plenty hot and I would be afraid of burning a hole in the piston if I were to go hotter than stock. In NGK, an 8 appears to be the same range as stock Buell xb. A 9 is cooler, and a 7 might be risky.

Autolite 4162 is referenced as the direct replacement, assuming 4164 is hotter?
