First and foremost, before you hit that reply and tell me how easy it would be to go ahead and steal my helmet using these thin cables - I agree. I just want something I can stash under the seat and is good enough to keep it from walking away on me. If some wants it bad enough, I don't want it to lead to damage to my bike in the process.

This is version one. I've made these for myself in the past. Just a length of braided steel wire with some tabs soldered on the ends & a small padlock. I'm cheap like that. But this requires that I carry another key and spend time on said lock, unlocking, locking, and unlocking again when I return. Too much bother. I'm lazy like that.

Here is this years' model. Looped, soldered and shrink tubed.

I'm already unlocking a locked pillion seat to get to my cable anyway, so I made this end of it to loop onto the underseat tab as shown.

The other end first being looped thru my helmet...

Voila... Very quick and very easy.

I did something similar to buelltroll, but with an arai helmet the d-ring tab is not quite long enough to hook on and close the cowling. My wifes helmet fits fine, I'm looking for other ways to secure mine.

I know about the picture tab one, and I like it, 'cept I don't want to scratch or scuff up my tail with my helmet hanging off it...

To each his own, eh?

I have a snowboard lock--a long thin cable wound up in a small canister (kinda like a tape measure). The end that pulls out has a fitting that enters a hole in the canister and locks (combination lock). I can run it through both the helmet and jacket sleeve, and part of the bike (or anything else).

I use a kryptonite bicycle cable lock. I run it through the helmet and jacket sleeve then lock it to my swingarm. I just leave the helmet hanging on the footpeg and the jacket on the ground under the bike. Nothing has walked off yet.

I use a pistol cable lock. It's big, red and rubber coated.

I run my strap through the peg and fasten, they have to bend down to unstrap it, maybe long enough for me to kick them in the face
