After 11,000 miles in 10 months I'd have to say I've been very bad to my new Buell. Why? It's like a crazy cling-tight girlfriend that I can and do mistreat to the MAX...but it continues to always work for me - it won't go away  . The more I mistreat it, the more it amazes me with its reliable. NEVER have I owned (or known of) a bike as reliable as my XB9SX. I've now said "goodbye" to my ST4 - no more DUCs for me. Besides, it's broken all the time...has been for the last ten months. I've just finished riding my XB9SX threw a nasty VA winter with NOT ONE PROBLEM! - With salt all over it daily, it always starts for me (even when wearing a fully heated suit twice a day, five days a week, 114 miles round trip) - no need to charge the battery nightly like I did for the ST4. I've never had to 'oil the chain' as it has a belt, nor have I had (or will I have) to adjust the tension on the belt ...or change it and the sprockets out every 15K like I would have to do with a chain driven bike (Darn, that..is..so..cool)! As for the engine, it's TEN times better then a DUC or Jap engine. No ••••, my Duc engine spends more time broken then running ( I don't give a •••• about the Ducati's HP or its 'cool valve's'...because it ALWAYS needs some type of adjusting or a part to keep it running. And after riding overhead cam bikes (Ducati and Japanese) and now a pushrod bike, I'll take reliability over horsepower ANY day or the week! My XB9SX @ 11K: Parts replaced so far - zilch Shop time so far - nil Down time - zip Labor cost - again...zero, nil, none! My Duc ST4@ 12K: Parts, Shop and labor - over $1,200.00 (YES, $1,200.00 dollars to keep it running. On what? ...Valve maintenance and belts!) Down time - weeks!!!! My bothers Suzuki Katana 750 @ 8K: Parts, Shop and labor - over $450.00 (All warranty work, but still lots of down time) Down time - weeks!! - Bad brakes, bad choke cable, hard starting, won’t start and stuff like that. STAY AWAY from Suzuki. --Letter to Buell- Dear Mr. Buell, Please do not try to be like the other bike manufactures...as their bikes brake all the time!! Please keep reliability at the top of your list and never ever give in to the hype that Buell needs to do 'this or that' to have a good bikes because you do have a very good bikes already! 32K on mine and the only thing that really went wrong on mine was a speedo sensor and a brake rotor (found out later all I had to do was clean the rotor bolts). Belt lasted 21K, though recommended change was 15K. I''m going to FITID! (Flog It Till It Dies) | ||

12,000 miles on my XB9s in 13 months. I've never had a problem, it runs BETTER than new. It makes great power and the oil stays clean (aka the rings sealed correctly). BTW I followed the breakin EXACTLY as recommended by Buell. | ||

10 months 11k xb9sx with race kit ride it like I'm racing it DAILY all weather! = zero problems Must say, not a bad bike at all. Two thumbs up! Probably should get the 10k Maintenance done soon though and new tires, lol! | ||

Now about Ducati's. Firstly I'm not a Ducati die hard fan but the Monster 900 was the first 'hooligan' style new bike I was considering buying in the early 90's. My heart however was set on an XR 1000 and had been for years. Long term BadWeBers will recall the story of how hard I tried to buy an XR. That is until I saw that yellow S1 on the cover of Cycle World all those years ago. I had to have one - an S1, or S1W as it turned out because it took me longer to fill the piggy bank than I'd anticipated, by which time we had the Thunder Storms. Well that was August 98 and things didn't exactly get off to a blinding start where the Buell was concerned. That's history but come July 99 I was test riding a Hayabusa contemplating a new tact. Other ideas kept popping up too. Another was a 916 but I held on and the S1W is still with me. Yes it's been very nearly three years down this time and overall it's been a long time down out of 7 years ownership but things are about to change because she's nearly back and back with a vengeance. This time it's screwed together with my own hands so I'll only have myself to blame but more on that later. Meanwhile that 916 idea came to fruition nearly two years ago. I needed another bike after what I'd been through bike wise and the 916 came along at an ideal time. I have to say with my hand on my heart it is a fantastic stunning motorcycle in every sense and those early model 916 unreliability stories have proved unfounded in my case. Focused and uncomfortable - so what? It's a 916! Unreliable - maybe but who knows. End of the day machines of any description can break but my 916 hasn't...............yet! Now they got the 910 Brutale coming out I'm gonna have to get me a ride on one. Don't ask where the £10500 asking price would come from if I liked the 910 Brutale that much. You guys might not like the answer but all things mechanical have a habit of turning a man fickle. Now about my behavi.........................................  Rocket | ||

20 months 24k miles @ 8k miles noise coming from tranny,was told it was normal noise 1 week down 13k miles tranny gets new mainshaft and bearings 3 weeks down 18k miles leaks and noise from primary 1 week down 20k miles voltage regulator went out 1 week down 24k miles transmission out and other problems 1 month and counting being down. |
