Found my rear tire flat this morning and after careful examination found a small puncture hole. There was no nail or screw in it. Sucks cause there was plenty of life left in it. The question is...how many of you have had a rear tire destroyed by road debris? Is it common on the D208's? The front is in great shape, so I'll stick with the D208 (and I've been pretty happy with it). I'm just curious to hear about others' experiences with the tire. Thanks. | ||

I guess it depends on where you live and ride. Here in NJ it is not uncommon to have road debris ruin a perfectly good tire during the season. I don't think that it is a particular problem for the D208. All brands have the same issue. Some guys just have it patched from the inside and keep using it, others feel more comfortable replacing it. Pros and cons to both, but ultimately it is up to you. | ||

I bought a set of new 208's and the rear picked up a big a** lag screw in the first 150 miles, I was pissed, I bought another new rear tire and got 7500 miles out of the 208's without another incident. I have since switched to Sportec M1's, I picked up a staple in the rear with only one side of the staple puncturing the tire at about 1000 miles, I had that plugged (mushroom type) and ran to 6000 miles and now I am on my second set of Sportec's with about 1500 miles and no incidents as of yet. To answer your question: no I do not think 208's are magnets for road hazards. | ||

My Pirelli Sync back tire picked up a roofing staple this weekend. Hopefully it will patch ok, notice the "nubbies" still on the tread. DBird  | ||

I guess I've been lucky, very lucky. I've been riding since mid 85' and only last year did I have my first tire mishap. It was merely a bad valve stem on my Sporty, no nail or anything of the sort. | ||

hey Johnnylunchbox atleast now you have a good reason to replace those pos dunlops with something good from pirelli, michelin, or metzler. i think it was a sign from god. | ||

7000 miles and I just put on my 3rd rear tire. First two were destroyed by road debris. Both were Dunlops...207 & 208 in that order. Front dunlop started cupping at about 3000 miles. I'm running the Bridgestone Battleax BT014 now. They take a couple minutes longer to get up to temp, but I love the ride. My bike will never see another set of Dunlops. As far as patching goes, it's difficult at best to find a shop that will patch a Motorcycle tire.(maybe that's just in California.) But it's been my experience that if the hole isn't too big or jagged the plug/patches work quite well. | ||

Less than 500 miles on my new XB12R and heading to work one day I heard a funny noise...it went away so I didn't sweat it - figured I'd check the bike when I got there (was only two miles away). I get off the bike and get to see this in my tire:   The funny thing was once I got the new tire in I brought the bike over to my buddy so we can change it - we pulled the screwdriver out and the tire was fine! It didn't puncture the inner wall...go figure! I put the new tire on anyway and kept this as a spare. | ||

Two flats in a month on my D208's both road debris. The Valley of the Sun (Phoenix area) is really tough on any tires (cager or bike). Some friends and I were talking the other day and were saying a tire store in Surprise Arizona can't miss! I am replacing the Dunlops with Michelin Road Pilots tomorrow. A little harder compound should get better mileage from the tires. | ||

For the record I haven't had a problem with the 208's. I am no Matt Mladdin (sp?) so have not pushed the tires to their limits. They've been super smooth for their up to now 2500 miles of use. No cupping and they've been wearing very evenly. I've thought about the plug fix, but I don't know if I can really trust them, even though I have no good reason not to. However, it is a really tiny hole and a slow leak, so I may use the plug for a temp fix. Thanks for the insights. | ||

520 miles on my CityX, go out to the garage to find the rear tire completely flat. Yup, a nail. Luckily it held air good enough to ride it to the dealership. | ||

I really enjoy Michelin pilots. Had Dunlop on my x1 too. the tire tends to get too hard at the end of its life. I usually have traction problems after 8 months or so. Michelins are great to the threads. unfortunately they aren't nail or screw driver |
