Had to stop VERY quickly at a light today(almost an unintentional Stoppie) and the bike just shut off... I've got only about 100miles on this tankfull, so I know it's low... But is it low enough to "starve" the fuel pump and shut it down in a quick stop? Don't have the low fuel light on yet, but I bet it's close. Started right up after I hit the starter, glad I didn't need to get going FAST!!!  Otherwise I LOVE my XB!!!! Kaveman | ||

My 03 9R does that--if the tank is 2/3 or lower, and I stop hard (yes, I've stoppied it), the engine stumbles and sometimes dies, but restarts with the starter. Anyone know whassup? | ||

not for sure but I think that the fuel pump is at the back low end of the tank, when you stoppie it it causes air to be sucked into the system and causes a loose in detonation since there is no fuel. No fuel, no run. when you guys start up after does it fire up right away or crank for a sec before firing. | ||

Sounds like the BAS (bank angle sensor) shutting your bike down. xb9r manual section 7.2 ignition basically if it senses the bike is tipped over too far it shuts down the motor. | ||

Mine's done that. Had about 100 on the tank. Just happens when the fuel moves forward and you starve the fuel tank. Don't worry about it. | ||

The fuel pickup is at the lower rear left side of the frame and if it sloshes forward, it can suck air. None of the "fixes" are worth the effort and all involve dropping the swingarm off, pulling the pump assembly out and fiddling and fooling with stuff. Yup - I'd bet it's just fuel slosh | ||

I've been assuming it's just fuel slosh--but it happens whenever I stop moderately fast, with a tank that's not completely full (I've only "stoppied" the bike once, I don't do that habitually). I know the tank is long and narrow--but still, I'd have expected some kind of baffle or whatever to prevent a momentary slosh from killing the engine. | ||

If you have to turn off & on the key (to clear the ecm) it's not fuel starvation. My XB did it once (or twice?)during panic maneuvers when new but no more. I had to clear the ecm so it wasn't fuel related, proly the BAS. Check out the service manual. | ||

I've stood mine up on her nose several times with full tank/half tank/ quarter tank and it has never died.  | ||

My XB12R has done that quite a few times during really hard braking. I'm pretty sure it's not the BAS in my case, the bike will usually just stumble a bit and doesn't always stall. |
