Saw it a few weeks ago, a black XB12R, on the streets of Nelson, BC.

Then, about a week ago as I was parking, a guy walked over to me and asked, "Is that a Blast?"

I told him, no, it's an XB9R Firebolt. He then told me his friend had just bought a black Firebolt--his first motorcycle ever! I suggested that perhaps an XB12R was not the best "learner" bike available, but I wished him good luck.

So then today, while in Nelson with my wife, I saw the guy on his black Firebolt, taking his motorcycle permit test (here in BC, they follow you around, giving directions via an intercom).

While better than an R1, I still don't think I'd recommend an XB12R, or really any XBR, to a beginner... What you guys say?

I agree. But as long as this guy takes it real easy and respects the torque this bike has, he may survive the learning curve and go on to enjoy the bike's potential.

I learned on a 12R. Rode it home in the rain, even! Just gotta have a strong left hand and weak right wrist. For a few days, anyway.
