Is there a company out there that has a thinner head or base gasket that I could use to raise compression?
And do you guys think the race ECU has enough fueling latitude to be able to compensate for the compression increase?

i have cometic base and head gaskets and the heads are decked .015. yes race ecm will be able to handle it...mine is still dead nuts flat even with the STG3 heads

If You use thinner head or base gaskets on a XB9 You may eventually find parts of the pistons hit the heads. So be aware.

i race a xb 12r all i did was put xb9 piston in and a race cumputer , and let me till ya in f-in rips edison buell n.j.

you put xb9 pistons in your xb12??? that explains the "mutant" portion of your handle.
quick questions for you: where did you obtain a racing cumputer? did you mount it on the bike, or do you leave it in the pits? photos please..... dean

What is the difference between the 9 and 12 pistons? eyes the XB9 parts motor in the corner

Yep... XB9 pistons have the same bore size as the XB12 just with a domed top. Hence increased displacement. Sunoco Ultra 94 and the over the counter Race ECM do the trick.

R U quite sure you can do that? if the 9 and twelve pistons have the same compression height, that means the two engines would have to have DIFFERENT con rod length. hmmmm now my head hurts.

Guys, Dome height will increase compression and not displacement. I would check your sources and make sure that there is enough dome height difference to really increase compression for the time, money, and tear down of the bike. If you want compression send those heads out to NHRS for the 30 degree domed chamber and port work with the large valves and put in a set of those CP pistons with the 30 degree dome. Then you will increase compression! 12.1 + and install a set of Zippers 585's or 643's. If you are going to do it do it right!

Do the FX Buell's use slipper pistons? If so, where would one find them?

If not... What would be necessary to get the side-loading ratio above 1.7:1? Move the wrist pin up as high as possible and get longer conrods? Would it be possible at the XB12 stroke length without moving the crank down?

Just curious...

It seems that this motorcycle is going to cost me a good deal in machinework : ).

I should just buy a set of cases so I won't have to save a big chunk all at once... I can just buy parts as I decide which ones I want.

Does anyone other than Buell make XB cases? Anyone planning on it?

I can see I have some investigating to do as well : ).

But if price is important I think your better off with stock cases though.

oops... I meant compression not displacement. Thanks for the correction.

We know that it works. Anthony's race bike #825 is running this set-up very effectively. That is until his big wreck last weekend. Anyway same motor is going back into new frame.

No, only the Tubeframers. I am eyeing it as I may have to replace the rear head on my 12, not 100% certain yet but its possible the crash broke the rear motormount at the head the same as the partsbike I got did. I just haven't torn into it to that point yet to be certain. Kind of difficult being mostly one handed.

It's the conrod length to stroke length ratio. It's widely regarded (at least by me : )) that the ratio should be above 1.7:1 to use slipper pistons. If it's below that, the pistons can cause more damage to the bore than you would want to deal with.
