seems to me all the buells have had names concerning weather. thunderbolt, firebolt, lightning. then there is the Blast. They should have named it "partly Cloudy" or even "chance of showers". I had a Blast so I can poke fun. Just a theory.

It could happen... and if it did, I'd think it would be REALLY nasty.

The airplane thing is only for their pre-release code names.

Rob's got it right. Erik is also an old warplane junkie, so the bikes get named after them. Lockheed's P-38 LIGHTNING...the P-47 was a THUNDERBOLT...you get the idea...

My first racebike was dubbed the "Warhawk" The P40's were underpowered compared to the opposition. BUT they where extremely nimble. The Thunderbolt was built on LI, so I have been told....

"I believe they are named after airplanes."

I sure as hell wouldn't go up in a plane called the "Blast".

Actually, if you consider the A6M Zero to be the opposition (it's classic foe), the P-40 actually had more power and wasn't nearly as nimble. The Curtiss fighter was faster in a dive and more rugged, though.

The standard attack method used by the AVG was to dive on their opponents and get away as fast as possible.

The storys my Grandfather told me was that you could blast the living crap out of a Mitsubishi Zero and the damn thing kept flying. He flew a F4U Corsair. I have read alot of stories regarding the P40's all claiming the same, climb high and come in over the top to get the air speed up. Thankfully our airpower was (still is) superior, I really dont like Sushi...Saurbraten is OKay.

Then he's a qualified Bad Dude in my book! Nothing but respect for Flying Leathernecks.
