I have read of people getting over 8,000 miles out of a Michelin Pilot Power rear tire (not Buells). Does anyone here use them on their XB? If so, I am curios how long they have lasted.

I am on my second set of Metzeler Z6's. Overall I've been pretty happy with the Z6. Good dry grip, good wet grip, and they have lasted much longer than the 207's that came on my XB9S (5,000 miles vs 2,700 miles). My only complaint about the Z6 is high speed stability, it wants to wobble over 90mph.

For my next tire, I want something with a rounder profile than the Z6--the Z6 sort of comes to a point in the center. I was leaning towards Michelin Pilot Road, until I heard the mileage people were getting on the Pilot Powers.

On my R1 I run Metzler M1 on the front and Z6 on the rear. No problem with stability. I get close to 5,000 out of the rear and 7,000+ out of the front

On my XB9R I have Michelin Pilot sport on the front and just put a Metzler Z6 on the rear. When the Pilot Sport wears out I will place an M1 on the front. Though mismatched it handles fine.

I never liked the Michelin Pilot Sport on my R1, and tool it off. But it did great on the Buell with a rear Dunlop 220 and likewise with the Metzler Z6. I only got 2,000 out of the OEM Dunlop and 3,000 out of the Dunlop 220. Hoping to get better out of the Z6, closer to what I get on it on my R1

with 7700mi have you (or your dealer) checked the neck bearing torque

i know that a dealer will say they did check it

but do your self a favor and check it yourself

Izz, yes I've done that.

The high speed stability issue is definitely because of the tire(maybe wobble was not the right word). I can eliminate it with suspension settings, but is slows the steering.

The Z6 has a taller profile than the stock 207. When I put the Z6 on I had to reduce the rear preload by 1 click in order to correct the change to the steering geometry. That is why I am looking for a tire with a rounder profile.

I understand the Pilot Power replaced the Pilot Sport this year or last, and improved on the wear and warm-up characteristics. It's what I'm looking at also, and need to find where to buy them cheap (for Michelins).

I have the Pilot Powers as well on my XB9S and they are great. Tires are personal preference though, and you will see that with everyone you ask.

All I can say is like Odie above "Got'em...love'em"

I had a pair of Pilot Powers on my 12R and had to replace the rear at with 3300 miles on it. I have the Pilot Roads currently with 4900 miles on them and would expect to get another 1500+ miles out of the rear. The Powers I thought were a great tire. warmed up very quick and always felt very sure on them. The Roads I can tell do not warm up as quick, but feel very good after a few miles of warm up.

I have a set of the Roads on my XB9R and this is the second set...the last set I got about 8500 miles from the rear and about 10,000 from the front. I don't crank on the gas hard but I like to turn hard.

I put the Powers on my Mille R and so far after about 1000 miles they are great. They take longer to warm up then the race tires I am used to but wanted more of a street tire for that bike.
I took the bike out for a session at Blackhawk last Weds and though I was riding like an old lady(no offense to any old ladies out there) they felt pretty good after a lap or two.
Boy is that Mille harder to run around a racetrack than the XB12R!
I think I'll stick to the XB and race tires for the track.

I changed my rear Pilot Power after 4200 miles , including one track day. They could have probably gone a couple hundred more , but I was doing some work on the bike, so I took the wheel off.
I found them to be great on street and track. They steer twice as good as the Dunlop 207, last twice as long, and cost about the same. Can't beat that.
Someone suggested a Pilot Road on the rear, Pilot Power on the front, they will probably wear out about the same time. If you don't go crazy in the twisties, the Roads will probably do just fine.

I pride myself on being an informed enthusiast consumer. I'll bet I've read every post on this board and others about replacement tires for my 12S. The stock rear D207 has a serious flat spot in the center and is now starting to show delayering rubber in a few strips (this back tire was replaced at 1300 miles due to a puncture, and has only lasted 3000 since then).

Well, I finally decided - I just ordered Michelin Pilot Roads; paid $219.99 shipped from TireExpress.com. After thinking about my riding needs (85% commuting), riding skills (cautiously aggressive), and riding budget (can't afford to replace tires every 3-5000 miles), I made my choice. I'll report back on the results, but I'm betting $220 I'll be happy.
