I wanna believe that and, again giving you the benefit of the doubt, I am going to assume yo know what you are talking about.

Name the last 3 "race engines" you have built and tell us, (use, for instance the www.teamelves.com website as an example) about your successes and failures.

I frankly don't care if you succeeded or failed...I just have a hankerin' you are giving a lecture on swimming and have never dipped a toe in the water.

I'll make this one easy.

Name ONE PERSON (just one) of the 6,000+ folks on Badweb who has ever said "Buells are perfect".

In fact, let me widen your window of defense. Name a person, give me a link to a post, or tell me who I can call, name a person in ANY INTERNET (that gives you a couple billion folks in your population to draw from) who has ever said "Buells are perfect" as you claim:

OK, let's see, the Honda RCV MotoGP bike had to get double the displacement and an extra cylinder to run with the 500cc GP bikes. Obviously not a real race engine...

The wheelbase on a stock XB is 52", the rake is 21o.

What are the wheelbase and rake of Buell racing bikes?

I don't ever recall anyone saying they (Buells) were perfect either. In fact if you recall, when you registered for this board, there was a segment on your profile asking you to list the problems you have experienced. Not to mention what you feel to be design and development shortcomings. So it would appear to me that like anything, anywhere, when you take into consideration this many different people and personalities there are bound to be some less than pleased consumers.
So what, Pup. You got owned this time. No biggie. Just get out there and ride...something. It will clear your head and improve your karma. Bad energy out. Good energy in. Bad energy out. Good energy ...etc.

Well I'll go ahead and say it, my Buell is perfect for me! Perfect in every way, in fact. Perfect fit, perfect number of minor problems that are easily addressed via BWB and a perfect sensation of contentment everytime I throw a leg over the saddle.

Just try and call me on it.

Granted this is a totally subjective perception and backed by nothing more than a few lonely brain cells firing in approximately the same order as the twin cylinders between my legs...

Court, you may want to check out the cycleworld article, the wheelbase is longer, and the rake has been changed. The thread about the tranny problems are right here on Badweb.Court, unlike many ppl on here I understand you represent Buell, unofficially, but still you do,so I take what you say with a grain of salt.As I've said,I guess you have to buy in to the Buell mantra around here ,but I am going to pass.Court, not to take anything from team elves,I can build a race engine with the right amount of money and a 50 yr old engine design, thats a pretty good start.Funny thing is,I still haven't bashed Buell,if you take anything I have said as bashing,so be it.There is to much to go back and reply to but keep drinking the Kool-Aid,also,not one time have I insulted anyone, but I see as usual, when you can't win an argument throw out an insult, not refering to anyone in particular, but you no who you are.If anyone can go back and show me were I lied or was wrong please show me,and I will either prove what I said or admit I was wrong, something many here should try sometime.

Yes....Yes, that's what I asked you to do.

  • Name the last 3 "race engines" you have built
  • Name ONE PERSON (just one) of the 6,000+ folks on Badweb who has ever said "Buells are perfect".
  • What are the wheelbase and rake of Buell racing bikes?

Tell ya what, just pick of of the above 3 questions to answer. Let's start by seeing if you can answer A question, then we'll work toward the other two.

Pup, my friend, you shot your mouth off. You pounded your chest and declared yourself the omnipotent nay-sayer of Buell. I ask nothing more than you back one of those statements up.

Simple enough?

Steer clear of the "I guess I'll just have to...." and "I'll take what you say with a grain of salt stuff", it makes you look scared and intimidated.

I do NOT represent Buell. I am a construction worker, in fact a member of Local Union #3 of the I.B.E.W., right here in New York City. I like my Buells and dislike misinformation. When you shot your mouth off you just got on a collision course with something I am passionate about. No biggie, just a fact.

By the way, I have insulted no one nor would I. Name calling and insults are unnecessary. I think you painted yourself in a logical and intellectual corner and I'm just eager to see if you can, as I have way too many times in the past, just say "opps...I was wrong".

You have a huge choice. You can answer the questions, do the "ooops" thing or dig in an make a major fool of yourself.

Go get'em tiger!

Gotta tell ya....this one REALLY confounds me.

You are suggesting that "unlike many" you know I am a Buell fan?

Good work Einstein. I've been riding Buells for 20 years, have ridden them in 44 states, done a daily radio talk show "Aboard a Buell" on Buells, been on a national radio talk show being interview about Buells, done several media "pre release" demo ride assignments, tested Buells, been to 3 "first annual" Buell owners events the last 20 years and been writing about Buells (I carry PRESS credentials) in magazines and on the internet since 1994 and you were sharp enough to figure out that I represent Buells, while it went right over the heads of the rest of the fools we co-mingle with.

I hereby unilaterally declare you Badweb's foremost forensic cyber-cop for having a highly and keenly developed grasp of the obvious.

Court,I never said you insulted me,but I see from your last post you have started, that's alright with me though. As for your three questions,I did answer one.I have built no race engines, give me money and a fifty yr old engine design and I can use available engine technology to do it.I do not have the article with me but will have it monday and will post it,in fact it was mentioned in this very thread about the changes from stock of the wheelbase and rake. There may be 6000 registered users of this board, but how many are still active and how many have moved on to a different brand. For you to say you are not at the least an unofficial representitive is laughable, you offer help with problems dealing with dealers,or problems with parts availabilty.Court, you still haven't shown where I have bashed Buell or said any untruths. So please keep the insults coming,I really thought you were above that, but I was wrong,oh well.

Pup:

Here are a few of your quotes:

  • Buells do get their asses kicked by 600 sportbikes, they are not true sportbikes
  • The Buells that are racing and almost competing against the Japanese 600's are in no way close to being stock
  • The only thing stock on the Buells in FX may be the wheels, every thing else has been modified
  • Looks like you are the Moron.
  • Can you truthfully tell me that the majority of ppl you see take pride in their work?

You are digging a hole.

I believe they are called Sportfighters, and most ppl make a point to let ppl know how unique they are

The Buells that are racing and almost competing against the Japanese 600's are in no way close to being stock
Court, tell me what is stock about the FX Buells

The only thing stock on the Buells in FX may be the wheels, every thing else has been modified
See above

Looks like you are the Moron
I was called a Moron by BadS1,I was merely responding to his insult

Can you truthfully tell me that the majority of ppl you see take pride in their work?
That was just an observation I have and many ppl I talk to daily believe.

I think it's totally dug.

BTW, the steering head angle on the race bikes is exactly the same as stock; the wheelbase is slightly longer for two reasons: 1) it has to be adjustable but it's impossible to make it shorter and not hit the front of the swingarm so it has to get longer, and 2) a bike with 135RWHP and slicks wheelies a lot morethan stock. If you think the racing Hondas or Suzukis are stock, you are out of your mind. Roadracing World did an article on each of the FX bikes last year, and the Buell was cheaper than the Ducati or Honda. All the bikes in that class are radically modified.

If you want to talk more mildly tuned ones, look at all the amateur championships won by Buells. The whole argument that the bikes don't work is absolute BS. They use a different type of engine that requires more displacement for equal power, just like the Honda RCV required to beat the two strokes. This type of engine is extremely low maintenance and gets great emissions and fuel mileage. Kinda like the DOHC multis vs. two strokes.

Michael Barnes's best finish on the Buell was 4th in one FX race last year, so far his best on the semi-works Suzuki in FX is 6th. Sounds pretty comparable to me...

Thepup
I have been reading your post for the last couple of months.
You claim others are having the same problems as yourself.
But I can’t find any posts that indicate Buells have a problem
in this area.

Your comments that Buells are inferior to 600s
and are not true sports bikes, gets under my skin.

Can you buy a better corner-carving production bike
for what a Buell will cost ya???
I’d say that qualifies it as a true sport bike.

I’m sorry you’ve had a bad experience with your Buell.
But, Buells don’t deserve the bad rap your laying out!
I hope ya have better luck with your next bike.

i for one dont frequent this board very much anymore.

it seems that the arrogance of alot of people here is just plain irratating when we have to justify our bike being better than literbikes/etc..

is my bike slower than most? yes it is. I live in michigan, its like a big square and i dont have twisties around anywhere.

I love my bike allthough i do wish it was faster. Ill be the first to admit that when i ride, i do go fast and i wouldnt mind more power.

I ride with some people who ride buells but i ride more with people who dont. The reason being is that i dont have to get into a pissing war with them about whos bike is better. we ride to ride and thats it.

in a couple of years i do hope that buell comes up with an engine to match others and complement the awesome chassis that it has because in my eyes, the whole "who needs numbers" is just an excuse for saying that they cant create an engine that can compete with others.

Am I wrong here, wasn't one of the main goals Erik had, was to have
the very popular and loved Harley motor in a state of the art frame and chassis???
If you replace the motor, you’ll just have another sport bike with
no character. I love the Buell for it’s motor and chassis.
The fact is, it’s a kick a55 Harley powered sport bike!
I guess you have to love Harleys to understand.
The Buell is in a class of it’s own. I wouldn’t want a Buell
if it had a pissie inline 4. I’ve owned enough of them in the past.

This has been an amusing spank of the monkey
pup,

But once again you have managed to "STEP ON IT"

The >>I can build a race engine with the right amount of money and a 50 yr old engine design, thats a pretty good start.<<

[SO CAN MY MOTHER with enough money]

That 50 year old design engine in my bike (01 x1)
originated in I beleive about 1985 as the evolution (or a variant of that)
IN that you seem to need some schooling,
check the motor co web site "hall of engines"

The fact that buell got around another 25 hp out of it AND its a daily driver speaks volumes for how good the basic design is and just how well as engineers there have done their jobs.

Do you own a manual?
EVER READ IT?
This is an air cooled engine with tollerences and fits that bring to mind a rolex watch,
I know some thing about this I built machines and tooling for several years.

"Inferior"? If you own rice you have to split the cases to service your gear box I pull the clutch, Primary Chain and a few other select bits and tranny is on the bench.
Consider this "that 50 year old design" keeps bits of gear and clutch OUT OF THE MOTOR

Further as far as reliability goes lets see
starts reliably in 20Deg weather, caught in 100+F temps In Miami, no long term ill effects
( no puddles either )
I dropped out on the Gulf in Missippi 12 hours before Charlie slamed into Jax Fl and I dogged the X1 all the way to JAX. sustained speeds in excess of 85mph AND Oh yes DID WE mention that Its a STREET BIKE
not bad for the "inferior" bike
}}}}

Please RE_READ Mr. Canfields' Posts and respond
Your last post is just more of your Mis information [B.S.]

Better Yet, Admit you are wrong apologise and be a member of the comunity be quiet and learn.
thats' how you get to be an OL-Dog because
natural selection takes care of the others

BTW Court;
I enjoyed your inputs with the others
I'm out of town and the thread except for the buell bashing has been quite entertaining.
Thanks Jim B

Im not reading all of this ridiculous thread but this comment did catch my eye You don't seem to grasp the fact that HP is COMPLETELY useless while at max lean angle... Due to this fact, handling becomes MORE important than power as long as you aren't TOO far off the mark. That situation also sets up good battles at "balanced" tracks. The IL4's would have the advantage on "straight" tracks, where the V-Twins would have the advantage on the tight technical tracks.

Tell ya what, come on out to Blackhawk farms track this wednesday & show me the advantage of either. Not arguing any point here other than making a blanket statement like that is stupid. Riding a bike fast on a track is probably 90% rider ability.

Sorry:
DiabloBrian MY Humblest apologies.
no insult intended in the MY mother quip
I have to agree, I built a nice small
Yoshimura Honda engine (in highschool)
When I think of Aaron Wilsons' 125 rwhp Cyclone
I have to wonder how much time and effort went in to that bike
Pup:
I had 3 different big bore suzukis including
an 86 GSXR 750, MY X1 would kick the Arse of my ol liter, or the 750, the Gsxr well MY
inability to ride it with the "Explosive" power delivery totaled it and put ME in the hospital for 10 days

Last year I got caught out on the blue ridge park way, low on fuel and in the rain I rode down
to Brevard NC In a heavy rain on a rough & twisty road the smooth power delivery and excellent handling of my LOADED FOR A TRIP X1 got me off of the mountain in good stead.
In the end theres more to it than just a motor.
