Hi everyone, Just experienced my bike's true talent for the first time yesterday by racing a guy on a Yamaha liter sport bike. Raced from street light to street light and kicked his A$$ every time.It was awesome. |

He couldn't ride then and you could. |

Or the lights were spaced 50 ft apart. Had a guy in a Hyundai Tiburon pull up to me at a light a couple of nights ago and wanted me too race him....a Hyundai...vs a bike....yeah right. I smirked and let him peel out and go away. It wasn't worth it. |

It may be that he couldn't ride but coming off my GSXR 750, I can tell you guys that I feel the power come on this thing right away. On my GSXR it took a second. Who knows maybe you guys are right. Maybe he just wasn't that good of a pilot, but it sure rocked. |

Hey, he beat him. That's all that needs to be said. BTW, congrants on a kill. Gotta love the feeling afterwards. Just be careful when you do it. Many places have the cops cracking down on it hard. Also, try not to tear into him about street racing guys. It happens. Many of us are guilty of that. It is one of the guilty pleasures in life. (Message edited by Cataract2 on May 21, 2005) |

Right on Cataract. I'll second that. Cops in San Francisco are pretty relaxed about that sort of thing it seems like. There are sooooo many friggin' motorcycles and they've got better things to do. In L.A., I would be concerned. |

Wasn't flaming on him...just ribbing him a bit. Believe me, the stop light race track is a temptation from time to time. Especially with the coffee-canned-fast-and-furious-civic-driving-wannabees. Hey Red, my guess is the sensation you're speaking about is the TORQUE! And it's the one thing we have gobs of right of the line! |

Now that I have my XB12S broken-in, I've had a couple light-to-light encounters. Guilty as charged... but I won them both... Good job Redtail69. Kick their collective a$$3$. My encountes were with a Suzuk liter sport bike... and the other was an obviously breathed-on HD who was staring at me and egging me on... Must have been that HD / Buell competition thing. There are some HD riders out there that don't think Buell's belong next to or with HD's in a dealership. Must be the "so-called" contrast in lifestyles. Go figure. Cars are another matter... TusconXB9s, your comment about, "Especially with the coffee-canned-fast-and-furious-Civic-driving-wannabees."... is spot on!! In NH, they are everywhere!! Still fun kicking their collective a$$3$ too. As tempted as I am, I generally do not street race often. Too many cars. Too many places for an accident to happen. Too many cops. My biggest pleasure is in the country, on a back road, eating miles with smiles... quickly.} |

Got a co-worker who's going to buy and infinity who claims he'll kick my arse with it. Hmmm, guess I'm going to have to put him in his place. |

Ryan, I googled infinity and found this: top speed of around 145 mph. Various car magazines evaluated the 0-60 time at around 6.2 seconds and quarter-mile below 15 seconds. I think 0-60 on a cyclone is 3.75 sec. |

I had a ZX9R before the 12 Buell, and I think the Buell would hang or beat it 0 to 60. But 60 up, the Kaw would be gone, no contest. You can only put so much power to the ground from 0 to 60, unless you stretch the bike So maybe we need to stick to the corners and stop light to stop light racing. That being said, if I come up against a liter sport bike with an extended swing arm, at a stop light I'll just let him go. Unless we are headed for some twisties. When you extend a bike, it becomes useless in the corners. |

My cousin owns a Kawa ZXR1200S with a stage 2 kit. Until we're half way 3rd gear we're an equal match. When I'm blessed with a good launch I will beat him but that's because he's not good at launches at all. One time I thought I was staying ahead of him, nearing 120mph flat on the tank. When he thought it was enough he downshifted and flew past me like I was standing still. Pretty sobering but funny. |

I don't have any great street racing stories with the XB, but I do recall racing a buddy on an older CBR600 (F2 or F3, can't remember which) while I was on my ~80hp '99 M2. We were headed to lunch one day when we got stopped at a light on an open road, so we decided to "see what they'll do." I figured I'd get him off the line but I expected the CBR to come whizzing by once he got it spun up. Neither of us launched hard at all, we each kept the front wheel on the ground. The Cyclone flat out walked away through 1st gear, I ran through 2nd and all the way into the rev limiter in 3rd and never saw the CBR. I'm sure he would have passed me eventually, but I ran through three gears and he never even caught up. You could try to claim that my friend was a poor rider, except he had multiple track days under his belt at that point and I'd venture to say he was likely a better rider than me. It's also worth mentioning that he only weighs about ~140lbs and I weighed about 200lbs at the time. The fact is that a well ridden Buell will hang with your average sportbike in a straight line as long as the speeds are kept sane. Mike |

I think 0-60 on a cyclone is 3.75 sec. Seems that the XB9S will do about 3.7 0-60. I figure with the race kit it should be a bit quicker. He's going to get spanked. |

One detail I missed here redtail69, are you on a 9 or 12 model? |

I just read his profile and he's got a 12R with the Jardine. I didn't read it the first time. I can imagine the look from the R-1 guy when he HEARD that 12 roar away....makes me chuckle. |

From a few 'unbiased and scientific' magazine reviews, the 9 and 12 are only marginally apart on straight line times, 3/10ths. Anyone actually ridden both and documented it? |

Plain & Simple if a guy is on a late model one liter & you beat him...he couldn't ride or wasn't really racing. If it was a 600 then fine. Let's no kid ourselves here...I love my xb for what it is but, will smoke any Buell on my Kawi ZX-10R. |

Well I did mention that it was street light to street light. All I know is that he was pushing that bike cause I could hear it. But whatever, I know that on a track he would kick my arse silly but on this day he did not |

to demonstrate the fact that rider ability has more to do with speed than motorcycle performance, On track days my brother routinely dices with and passes 600s (with 100+hp) on a "little" lwss suzuki sv650 (70 hp). These guys are not "letting him by" either. They definitely do not want their friends/team mates to see this. This is dicing with other liscensed racers too, not newbie wannabes. Bottom line is this You can not race a spec sheet! unless of course you make a paper airplane out of it
