Dave I know where to get a first year 73 Z1 900.All original parts are there.

===================================

I'd love to have one too! Also looking for a pristine, low-mileage H1 or H2.

I like a good Rib Eye Steak... my friend likes swordfish. Says that for my money, it'd be much better for me to eat fish. I tell him - but I like Rib Eye. He sez, doesn't matter, the fact that I like Rib Eye just tells him what kind of fool I am for not eating fish.

Another buddy then sez... "you are both totally stupid - I can get so much more protein, fat and carbohydrates for my money at McDonalds than either of you two fools!"

So then I'm thinking maybe I'm eating the wrong kinda food. There's all sorts of information out there about steaks - cooking them on the broiler, BBQ, what seasonings to use and now my faith is questioned by my swordfish-eating friend AND as if that isn't bad enough, now I find out that I spend too much money on dining out when I could spend 1/4 the money at McDonalds that I spend on a good rib-eye steak!

DANGIT - I can't decide what I like!!!

Now I tried sushi and sashimi a while back and y'know, it's actually pretty good but I won't dare admit it to my BBQ-ing friends because they have enough information about grilling Rib-eye AND swordfish to negate my decision to occasionally try sushi and sashimi.

Meanwhile my buddy still says we're all fools because he can still eat for less than 1/4 of what we're spending.

WHAT DO I DOOoooooo???

I don't know what to eat!

Just for reference, my "slow" Buell XB12R ate at least two RC51s on the straight at VIR South this past weekend, along with too many Japanese 600s to count.

If needed, I can list control riders for corroborative evidence.

Then stop participating... Liberal ; )...

Sorry Pup, but you just don't understand what Buells are about. Please go buy an in-line four.

You keep saying how well the Inline fours stack up against the Buell's... They do not. Period. I've had exactly two motorcycles pass me on a very popular stretch of road around here. One was a Soper-Moto, and I don't remember what the other one was... When you get to the deep twisties, there's not much greater than a Buell. The deeper the twisties, the fewer bikes there are that are as capable. It's a proven fact. Many times and even scientifically. They've posted radar at mid-corner locations in FX. The Buell's are quicker. When it comes to the street... you are only losing to 600's because either you can't ride, or a majority of the people you ride with are a good deal better than you. I'm sorry to say it, but that's how I see it.

I've tried telling you why Buells have advantages over other bikes, you have done nothing but say "600's RULE!". Whatever. You're wrong. That's OK with me : ).

At least inform yourself before you start telling a board full of Buellers that an IL4 600 is a better bike.

IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU USE IT FOR!

Straight Line - Get a 600 (or whatever else turns your crank hard enough)
/Richard simmons voice - and TWIST... And Twist...

Mountain roads - Buell. <--- Notice the period

I'm done explaining why to you. That's life. Get over it. It's not my fault you can't see the forest for the trees. Then again... If all you have are straight roads near you... Well... Get a powerful cruiser.

M1,never said I wanted an IL-4,I just am not blinded to the fact that a Buell is inferior in some regards. As I have stated before,I do not race,I have no need to prove anything.Facts are facts Buells only compete against 600's in FX,why not in other races?Equal riders and the Japanese inlines win.I can't understand why ppl get so upset when you say something about a Buell that is accurate and a reason ppl claim to like the Buell for.Let me repeat. If I get another bike I will be getting a V-Twin SV650,which the Buell would have no problem in beating in any aspect,so quit trying to act like I am dissing Buell when i state a fact.

That's the problem though Pup... You AREN'T stating a fact. The only tracks where the 600's are faster are tracks with LONG straights. That's it. On the street, the Buell is even MORE dominant due to lack of unsprung weight and FAR superior geometry.

I'm sorry you get your handed to you by 600's. I don't (I could care less about straight line performance). My favorite section of road is the ONLY place I care about. Anywhere else, I'm just cruising along anyway. The 600's can't keep up with a Buell on the Spars. When someone who's a better rider comes along, then it's a good time, but I can SEE that they work harder than I do for the same speed. That tells me that there's more left in the Buell than there is in their IL4 600/750/900/1000/whatever. Guess what... The 1000's work even HARDER to stay in front or keep up. They get all kinds of squirly coming out of the corners because they can't control the power. I just roll on as early as I can and try to not run into them coming out of the corner. If there's a string of corners together, I have to back off a good deal first so I'm not forced to pass them mid way through. Don't get me wrong... I don't race on the street. I just run along at my own pace and other people try to stay ahead or keep up.

I've never touched my knee pucks (never tried) and I've never scraped a peg (although I've scraped my boots all up). This means that there's still more in the Buell. I've gone around 200 degree 60MPH corners with an R1 in front of me dragging knees, elbows and pegs all the way around. I wasn't dragging anything and I gained about 2' on him. Guess what happened when we exited that corner? We entered a string of 20 or so more corners and I had to back off to keep from running into him. After all those were done we got to a straight. He walked TF away. Gained about 40-50'. I cought him and had to slow down again by the time we got to another straight (about 2 miles). We finally pulled out of the spars and the roads straighten up again for a few miles. I didn't see him again until the next gas station. That's PERFECTLY fine by me. I have no intention of running 150MPH on a street (even if I could have kept up, I would have let him go).

Once I send my engine to Nallin racing... I'll be able to keep enough time on the straights against an R1 that after the first set of turns he won't even be able to see me...

The Buell is built for the street. The IL4 race replicas are built for the track. The Buell is mostly competitive with an IL4 600 on the track. An IL4 600 is mostly competitive with a Buell on the street (although IMO, the difference is larger on the street... IOW, the Buell is a better street bike than the 600 is a race bike).

You really need to understand racing to "get" the buell for a race environment. The Buell is VERY easy to ride fast. This translates into less fatigue and more consistency. These are two of the most important things in racing. Overall speed is only really important for qualifying (as long as it's not a major difference). Once you get to the race, you want a bike that's easy to ride and only needs to be the slowest bike on the track and still win. You see all these races where it comes down to tire management... That's a strength for a Buell...

"I just am not blinded to the fact that a Buell is inferior in some regards."

Me either. It's just that the ONE place the 600 is superior is the LEAST important aspect of motorcycles to me (unless you include cost, but that one is just above power for me).

I agree that you get more bike for your money with a 600, but you get less bike overall... A good deal less.

All of this who can do what matters not at all. Most folks will look at the hp numbers and the price and decide that the XB is over priced for what it is. That is perception, very few folks will be able to ride the XB back to back with yamahondakawasuzki whatever. Even if they did I have noticed that many people have trouble hustling a motorbike around a corner. Kinda befuddles me how they get around at all but that is what I have seen. No, Buells don't sux, neither does any other bike, just a matter of percepton as to which is better. The MSRP of the XB12 is in the same neighborhood as the liter bikes from everyone else and when they look at the hp difference and read the mag articles they decide the XB is overpriced for what it is. Like comparing hp to pounds to determine performance, compare dollars to hp to determine value. Most folks (squids) will look at that and go with the big power, because accelerating in a straight line is all they can do. Just a matter of perception. Like Pam Anderson being voted the most beautiful girl in the world, maybe, but I had rather have a chick that is not Hep C positive. As always YMMV.

Most of my riding partners have liter bikes. I have a rule that I follow on the straights and that is I will not go over 85 mph. But in the twisties look out I'm all over them. If I wanted to go fast on the straights I would have bought a liter bike. I like my buell !!

M1, save your fingers and quit typing! The facts are pup owns an XB, has logged some miles, and had some bad dealer experiences. In his mind he is done with Buell and no amount of arguing either way will change his mind. The whole racing thing is another issue, but again, you're not gonna change his mind.
Let it go....it will be ok....you can't convert them all!

This right here is a big reason why so many consider Buell to be inferior. Many many many people tend to be spec sheet riders. I was riding with a group of mixed bikes and I had a few who mentioned how my Buell was underpowered. They all seemed to love going WOT on the street. Odd part was when we got to curvier roads with tighter curves I would ride their rears all the way though it.

I think Budo put it best with his response.

I understand.

However... I'll not stand idly by and allow someone to post things that are both not true AND reflect badly on the XB. There are at least a couple things that ARE true and reflect badly on the XB. Why not just post those instead of making things up?

They are "overpriced" but that's quite relative and subjective. RSV Mille R's cost nearly twice as much and still aren't as fast as a Litre bike...

I still say the problem is with ThePup... Not TheBike...

I've had many I-4s and if I had to go as fast as possible that's what I'd ride today, or I'd get an RC51 or a Ducati. There is no shortage of powerful and great handling bikes out there.

Right now I'm really enjoying the hot-rodded sporty engine for what it is. The big four bikes are basically commodities, with relatively small differences between brands. The Buell is very unique and I feel lucky to have mine.
