Wow. That sounds like an undertaking, considering how they shoehorned the wiring into the S models behind that flyscreen. Fuse box might be an issue too. Not to say that it can't be done, but sounds like more than a Saturday afternoon's work. I'm sure some other BadWebbers will have some insight into this.

Swapping front ends is a lot of work. you need to change triple trees, handlebars, headlights, main wire harness for the bike, instrument console, and i am still not sure if the ecm will mount in the tail of the r model(which is where it has to go since the s front end has no room for it). I have had both models torn down and there are some major differences in the placement of things and the space for them.

The conversion from an S-R front end is easy because there is very little wiring in the front to contend with, on the R-S swap, you have the fuse boxes, and ECM to cram in a space just large enough to hold the bare essentials. You do not have to change the gauge cluster itself. It would be alot easier to do if you also changed out the wiring harness. That is an expensive and very time consuming process to do with care.

watch what you ask for...knowing hd's proclivity to make different models with same basic frame/engine configuration, july's 2 new buells might just be 'combos' of the existing xb's

Is this what you're looking to do? Except keeping the back and changing the front...Or are you talking about a full on conversion? I figured this would help you with the electrical a bit.

Ronlv, look at my profile, I converted my tailsection to an S from an R and it looks sweet.

XB9RS

This is a much easier conversion for the R model.
