open your airbox top to expose the filter. look at the left frame rail. see the tube going through the frame? that is the snorkel. you should pull it out since part of doing the race kit involves removing it.

You can reach in the left side air scoop and up. If you feel rubber, it hasn't been removed.

You can reach up the left air scoop and feel (or even see)the bottom of the snorkel from there if it's still there.
Dealers sometimes forget to remove the snorkel.
It's not the stack on throttlebody intake inside the filter. Don't touch that.
Some oil normally collects in the bottom of the filter box from the PCV breather tubes.

Unless you put the breather kit on and reroute them under the bike somewhere!

Yes, but I can't find the charts but the bhp and torque return for removing the snorkle and fitting a 12 lid is significant and without doubt the best value tuning mod I have carried out in 35 years of working on bikes.

Remove the cover, unclip the stock airbox cover and swap. I think they're $40. With snorkel out, it allows more air in.

Yes. Also, to note, the 05 9R's come with the 12 box cover.

You can identify it by the downward dimple over the intake stack. Also, there is a rectagular indentation in the top of the cover where the 12 muffler valve solenoid would sit.

Pertinent part numbers for you.
