The editor of Canadian Motorcycle On Line (Rob Harris) has just posted his review of the XB12 Lightning on his webzine. Though he is far from being a Harley fan (or Buell's for that matter), and some of his comments show a lack of understanding of what the Buells are all about (imo), in the end he admitted that the XB actually excelled in what I consider to be the most important reason for owning a bike, the fun factor. just an opinion like a$$holes, everyones got one. If I was looking at the Buell line up to purchase, I doubt I would put too much weight into his article | ||

I think it's a very good article. He has some facts wrong within the "Evolving Buell" section. But it seems to me that he first looked and the bike through jaded lenses and then expressed his surprise and delight of what the machine could do after actually spending some time on it. Face it, the XB's are like no other bike. I'd be more disappointed if he came out blowing smoke or sounding like a Buell spokesperson. You want to hear the good and the bad. If there's no bad, there's bu11$h1t. | ||

Sounds just like another review of someone that doesn't have the balls to tell the truth (read: commercial). Every time he says something bad he counters it with something that actually makes up for it. In the end he compares the ST with the Buell and doesn't give a clear case but again tries to balance it out. When one shines the other lacks and so on. Don't get me wrong, he says a lot of good things about both bikes that I believe is true. But many things he says about the Buell makes me believe he never learned how to ride it. Note that he had the stock dunlops, of which we all know don't help steering and confidence. Then whenever he talks about the ST it is pretty clear he has ridden it a million times and feels confident because he is so familiar with it. Something I do like is that we are seeing more reviews of Buells, meaning more people are reading about them. Hopefully they will not take every word for granted and testride one for themselves. | ||

And btw, when he mentioned the v-rod engine, I *knew* he wasn't catching the spirit of what Buell is about. Too bad. | ||

2002 launch of their new XB9S Firebolt. The XB9S Firebolt was followed a year later by the XB9R Lightning Uh, S=Lightning, R=Firebolt. If that's too complicated for a moto-journalist, he should just read the airbox. Maybe along with RTFM we should have RTFAB. Otherwise not a terrible article. His complaints make you think he doesn't get it, but his positive comments make you think he does. | ||

You can't expect much from his opinion, after all he only gets a ride 1 month out of the year. | ||

What about the totally bogus comment under the pic of the X1: "The old X1 (circa 2000) used a stock Sportster motor." Um, I think that is kinda off base a little...More accurate would have been a 1995 S2... Bottom line, however, is that he seemed to really "get it" and preferred the XB over the SpeedTriple. | ||

HAve to agree with you guys on that DUDE.. But I wd. like to know where he lives and only drives one month of the year ... I`m way up here North in CAnada and I drive from April 1 to Nov.1 And then the old time in between perhaps depending on the weather??? | ||

re: more reviews appearing .. i am on a canadian sportbike forum & even some of them guys admitted wondering abt the buells. a guy on a gsx-r600 gave me the thumbs up today & an older guy on a suzuki v-strom was seriously chking my bike at 2 sets of lights, asking questions & such, then blitzing away doing over a ton in a 60 zone - i let him have it. |
