Hey guys and gals, would any of you know of a battery that may weigh less than factory and still be o/k for regular use?? I'm putting my bike on a diet.

the best that I am aware of is the Odyssey battery for the Buell .... latest technology .

Thanks, nice batteries but super heavy. I need something sub 8 pounds.

Don't know if this helps. There are usually used in high end car audio but you might be able the use them in a bike. They can provide really high current output for short durations and they charge recharge really fast. Hence the name batcap.

look into Lithium polymer. I think they weigh about a 1/3 of a regular battery. I don't know if they make them that size. It's just a matter of time before they do. They are real popular in Rc planes. They also are able to maintain a high discharge rate. They don't slowly lose voltage they just drop off.

Wow! If you do away with the battery as per the suggestion Sleez threw out you could lose the starter motor too. Think of the weight savings.

NO. you NEED all that lead-acid battery. that is NOT where you should look for weight savings. It is already as small as you want for "regular use".

racingmotorcycles.com has one, but considering the Formula Extreme bikes apparently don't have a starter, it is probably not enough CCA's

If I am correct about how the gererator works on these bikes, you do not want to get rid of the battery, or decrease it's size too much or you risk regulator and stator damage. Electrical engineers PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.
