Does anyone have an XB9SX and the race ECM installed? What are your thoughts? How does it run when compared to the stock ECM. I'd like to get more sound from my Buell, so I am considering a Special O.P.S. or a Drummer pipe, but I do not want to change the performance drastically to have a louder exhaust. I read in another post from November 2004 that vibrations increase at low RPMs, and in recent posts that it can stumble at idle for a few minutes.

I have heard that I will need the race ECM to run an aftermarket exhaust. Is this true? Just looking for any input at all. Thanks in advance.

I have an '05 XB9SX with the K&N, race ecm and Drummer. It's the way to go in my opinion. The vibration is a non-issue. The reality is it's gonna get louder no matter what pipe you use. If you do the mods and have the TPS and AFV set up properly you will be in good shape and love it.

You will need the race ECM, or the stock ECM with the TFI or Power Commander when you swap the exhaust or it'll run lean. The race ECM is a plug-and-chug affair. The others aren't.

On my '03 9R I installed the race ECM, D&D, K&N, and de-snorkled. The bike ran like crap limping up to get the TPS reset. Idles great now. It is a little rougher, in my opinion, below 3K, but is smoother and pulls like a freight train above 3500. I think for my taste the D&D sounds a little harsh running through town, but other than that it sounds real nice !

Unless you are going to change your tire or belt, don't bother pulling the idler pulley when you are swapping your exhaust.

I have the race ECM, cut airbox, trimmed snorkel, and the special ops pipe. Performance is fantastic, I won't be outrunning R1's, but it pulls hard every time and everywhere I want without worrying much. It is a great and balanced bike.

The special OPS pipe is LOUD. Not quite D&D loud, but louder then the Buell race can, and probably significantly louder then a drummer, though I have not heard them side by side.

It won't get you arrested or anything, the neighbors probably won't even complain, but it is right on the lower edge of the hearing pain threshold for long loud rides.

I hope to have a dyno soon, gotta wedge some time from a frantic work schedule. The sound is great, I go back and forth if I want to go quieter or not. I am not a loud exhaust guy, but the pipe really does sound nice.

Its a really good bike stock though, don't feel like you have to do *anything* to it.
