Just installed Free Spirits CF frame protectors that I ordered from daves. there was a little mix-up at first but dave took care of it like a pro. Thanks Dave. Anyway about those frame protectors... Finish is great. The pieces are thick and seem like they will offer a reasonable amount of protections. Initial fit however, leaves something to be desired. At first it wouldn't even fit onto the frame. I used a dremel and ground down the top and bottom lips. In some areas the lip is almost paper thin. Even after all the grinding the fit is not so perfect but is acceptable. There is a 1/4" gap on the top front of both pieces. I took a few quick pics.

Yup. It only gets worse over time unfortunately.

I have a crapload of Automotive grade 3M double-
sided tape for ground effects and combined with
the engine heat, washing the bike and the wind,
it's starting to get bigger...plus little pieces
of gravel get in there and do a nice jobby of
grating on the frame.

I don't care for the fitment -- didn't when I
purchased them and liking them less and less.

I'm probably going to ditch them and go with the
Buell pucks instead. Sad part is that I have
C/F everyhere else and the naked frame is going to
look...well...naked again. : (

I think that if it starts to come loose I'll remove the bottom lip. It seem that if I do that the top will fit much better. I don't how or where they got their mold but it's just too small.

Jeez and for the price you pay for CF, too! You think they'd just mold it to wrap the top and the bottom of the frame. Good pics though, guess I'll stick with my pucks.

I would try to seal it with black silicone. I did this for some parts on my Jeep and it has lasted a long time and still looks great.

This is the problem with most, not all, but most aftermarket parts. They are close but not perfect. The bottom line is, in 99% of all cases, you can't really beat the factory. It's too bad because there are a lot of great "concept" parts out there that are very desirable and just plain cool. Many the factory will never offer.
