I left the dim one 55W but replaced the bright with the 100W version. I have to say it's a lot brighter and its been in for 4,500 miles now with no ill effects. I might try the 100W on the dim side just to see...

Hey Andy, welcome!

Check out some of the previous threads, Fullpower has HID's on an S but as far as I've seen around here nobody has done it on an R. Behind the fairing there should be plenty of room for the ballasts. If you do get something figured out I'd like to see it. I installed some better bulbs in the stock housing for a marginal increase in brightness, and leave both lights on all the time. For more light I plan on adding auxiliary lights mounted to the forks like Fullpower did.

Hello and Thanks coldwthrrider.

I did take the low beam housing apart and removed the tin shield. I think it helped
havn't had time to ride it since.

also is H3 a standard bulb number like 1157 or 9007 ?? I'm assuming so??

This is my first Buell, I did upgrade all my other sportbikes and had no problems.

thanks for the info

yes, its a regular bulb, used primarily in off road fog lights till now!! This is the first time I have seen them in a driving light. Auto Zone, Pep Boys, Wal Mart, any of those can get you the 100W. If you want to go the expensive route, JC Whitney has some Xenon filled 100W for 10 or 15 dollars.

Be careful bumping up the wattage...the circuit they are on might blow the fuse or mess with the wiring if too much current flow is introduced with higher output bulbs.

I say either get braver or look harder...

I used 100w ones from ironmachine.com.
DO NOT use 100w in both it draws too much current and ends up melting the connectors.
Now I'm using 55w=75w output cuzo hyperwhites no melting n plenty bright I'd recommend them to anyone.I got my from a local ricerocket CAR shop.

Anyone know what the stock relays are rated? I am going to 100w in both and they will be on all the time together. I am putting in all new wiring and new relays but I have no idea as to what the stockers are. John

My suggestion would be to put in Sylvania Silver Star replacements at 55W (they are brighter), pull out the little spoon in the lowbeam, and run both lights except around stoplights...

My fear would be that the additional heat from 100W might be why some riders on this board have had their headlight housings crack on Firebolts.

I have replaced the lowbeam so far and it is somewhat brighter. I will replace the highbeam with Sylvania when it burns out.

what is with the one high beam/one low beam thing. the first day i got my xb12s i noticed it and immediatly put a relay in so they are both on when the high beam is on. then i just leave the high beams on all the time. " better to be seen then to be hit" thats what i say

I'm in the process of adding some to the store for both Firebolts and Lightnings. Just like the H4 bulbs we've sold in the past, there are some H3 and H7 bulbs that put out the brightness and whiteness of higher wattage bulbs but don't consume more power. They get their brightness through higher quality gases, filaments and construction. There are plenty of cheap bulbs out there that aren't worth paying for (from Taiwan, China, and Korea), but there are higher quality Japanese bulbs that are worth paying more for. The first Firebolt set was sold last week to a good American Sport Bike customer for evaluation (I don't have a Firebolt). Assuming I get some positive feedback from him, I'll add them to the store.

Al

Keep an eye out for spring retainers losing their ability because of heat. I thought I lost my high beam, but after buying one, found out mine was fine. The spring retainer has lost its shape through heat. I just bent it back and voilla!
