Hey Guys,

I recently bought a used 12S as my first bike. I had a guy ride it home for me and he said that the throttle is laggy. Its like this: Its in idle and you roll back on the throttle maybe 15-20 degrees and it doesn't trottle up. After the 20 degrees it jumps up to 1200 rpm. I know this engine is torquey but it seems like it should be a more even transition as you roll back on the trottle. I'm a newbie but my friend whose been riding for a while noticed this. If anyone else has expierenced this and knows what it is or how to smooth it out, let me know.

Just some ideas
Throttle cables adjusted properly?
TPS set correctly?

Sounds like the behavior of a TPS out of sync. Very similar to what they do when the Race ECM is first installed prior to the TPS reset.

Is it necessary to reset the TPS after installing a TFI on an '03 XB9S? Cuz I just put mine on, and the throttle is lagging terribly, and I've heard a lot of different reasons for that. But I just got my 10,000 mile check up right before I put the TFI on, so not sure if I need the TPS reset or not?

It sounds like the throttle cable play is excessive. The manual calls for 1/4 inch of freeplay in the cables which can be perceived as a lag. I tighten them up until there is very little freeplay, you don't wnat them too tight as then when you close the throttle it isn't really closing. If that isn't the problem then I agree with the TPS sync.

Sweetp411 it is NOT necessary to reset your TPS
after installing the TFI... If you just got the TPS reset then you are good to go UNLESS the tech. never did a good job in doing so... but putting the TFI on does not require a tps reset...

Hope that helps

after i put the heads on and a TPS reset...not one pop and when you "blip" the throttle it goes up nice and smooth to 2k and right back down. gotta love it.
