How can I tell which Power Commander II is right for the XB? As I understand it, there were different PCII's for the X1 and the S-T...

Thanks in advance.

Also was told that for normal exterior mods, filter, exhaust etc one does NOT need the hi output 4 wire o2 sensor...

I've heard it's always a better situation to use the Hi-Po O2 (Which I have heard is the same O2 used in a Ford Taurus...).

Al?

The PCII IS NOT computer adjustable. The PCIII is. Both were available for the X1 and S3T. The listing for the X1 was most likely due to the S3T being the touring model and therefore less likely to have a PCII/III purchased for them. The FI is identicle between the two bikes with the ECM being interchangeable. The XB is the next 2 generations above the X1 and therefore can still utilise the PCII/III. With the PCII you basically have a TFI unit with manual pot adjustability. With the PCIII you can actually build maps of the fuel injection using a computer interface. It has not been clear if there were or were not USB models available before Dynojet quit offering the PCIII for the X1's, I am not saying they are not there, just saying I haven't heard of one being used. All the ones I know of/heard of being used are seriel port units.

Again I could be wrong but that is what I have tracked down, and the Hi-Po O2 sensor is a MUST as it keeps the check engine light from being tripped.

Don, if your asking about the unit I supplied you with that is a PCIII listed for an X1, the base map currently loaded in memory is the base dynojet map for an X1.

I'm asking because it's a PCII...

It has a serial port and I've read most of the documentation on Dyno-Jet's site. It should be tunable with a PC.

From what I've read, it seems that the PCII is the one to have for a Buell because we have IAT, TPS and in this case Hi-Po O2...

"The Power Commander II was introduced in 1999 and featured the latest surface mount electronics. Additional features were added like the faceplate button adjustment. The Power Commander II also allowed fuel and ignition adjustment on select models. The PCII utilizes "sensor offset" technology to adjust the fuel curve. Signals from the various sensors on the bike are monitored by the PCII and these signals are recalculated and sent to the ECU in order to achieve the required fuel curve."

"The Power Commander III was introduced in 2000 and is externally similar to the PCII. The PCIII utilizes "direct injector control" technology to control the fuel curve for models that do not possess the appropriate sensors to allow sufficient fuel adjustment using the PCII technology. The PCIII takes the injector pulse from the ECU and changes the pulse width signal to the injectors. This unit allows "Fuel Only" adjustment."

The manual mentions that you shouldn't make adjustments in "The Box" which is defined as Less than 40% throttle AND less than 4500 RPM (Pg.26 at http://www.powercommander.com/manuals/User_Manual.pdf). This allows the closed loop mode to operate normally. I would imagine that you wouln't want to reset the AFV before tuning with a Power Commander

That unit was verified through dynojet after receipt as being a PCIII. But honestly we are dealing with a component for a discontinued model, hence my comments "I could be wrong" but it was the rep from Dynojet that gave me all of the above information.

So it's a PCIII that got accidentally badged as a PCII? That sucks. In reading through all the docs I think I'd rather have the PCII.

BTW : )... No problem... I'm hoping it's a PCII...

"The PCIII utilizes "direct injector control" technology to control the fuel curve for models that do not possess the appropriate sensors to allow sufficient fuel adjustment using the PCII technology."

The XB seems to have the necessary sensors to make the PCII work well, and from what I can tell, it seems to be every bit as capable as the PCIII as long as that condition is met (and more if you really know what you're doing).
