New starter on 2 week old CityX with 252 miles on odometer (took dealer 2.5 weeks to get it all taken care of - grrr). Manufacturer defect I guess, anyone else had the problem?

I dread thinking about how many parts they had to remove to fix it. I asked if they had any bolts left over.. ha.

Anyway, 43 mile ride home from dealer was a joy... forgot all about my troubles over last 2.5 weeks (and all about the many good riding days I missed).

Now I can finish the break-in, of course trying not to break anything else!!! :-)

Thanks for the moral support guys.

The only problem I have had is a slight dampness of oil on the primary cover, and I have over 1,800 miles. That issue was resolved during the 1,000 mile service. Everyone knew you would forget about the downtime after riding it. Enjoy!!

7500 miles and no problems. About time for a new rear tire though.... sigh....

I have 2000mi with a failed front brake light switch at 1000mi. It was a $13 part. I installed it myself at my cost. It was a warranty item but to go through the dealer drama for that was not an option for me.

At 2200 miles, only issue is intermittent tach/speedo sweep on turn key. Always eventually kicks on during ride and dealer did not find anything wrong at 1K check up. This is a great motorcycle. Mine is undergoing a make over for a track school in 2 weeks, (Crossroads bars and Pirelli Diablo Corsa tires.) Fun part is it can be switched back to the CityX mode at whim.

Curious, my 9sx tach is the same way.

Always works fine after the sweep though. Reminds me of my first bike, an old yamaha, that would do the same thing (but I would have to give it a whack to get the tach to eventually move).

Reep,

You have one of the new ones, mine's a classic made back in '04, (back when they knew how to make a real bike.)

my 05 xb9sx does the same as well, espesially after a cold,or rainy night, monday i finally got to see the tach coming to life about 4 miles into my commute to work and i think it's a good indicator of the problem,as the tach came to life it registered about 10% of my actual rpm ie: 5000 showed 500rpm for about 1 mile then the tach started functioning normally,so it's a signal strength issue ,either a wet connection or a connection that does not make contact until heat expands the connection making positive contact,i lil dielectric grease should check out the wet connection which i am guessing it is
does that sound right to you folks?

Weak signal strength and/or wet connection makes sense. My Sporty's speedo stopped working once. I discovered that when I had put the gas tank on I pinched the wire. As soon as I freed it the speedo worked perfect again so I'm leaning toward signal strength. I'd have a dealer check it out just to make them aware of this problem.
