I am ready for the 1K service on my 12R and am having alot of trouble finding Mobil 1 fluids in my local stores. Finally got the 20W-50 v-twin for the motor but could not find the 75W-90 for the trans. Only other name brand synthetic I could find was the Castrol Full Synthetic 75W-90 with added protection for marine drivetrains.

The label reads as follows:

--- Synthetic additives that provide excellent protection for high performance outboard gear and stern drives
--- Improved thermal stability and excellent sheer stability for superior wear protection.
--- Protects against rust and corrosion.
--- Exceeds API service GL-5 lubricant for extreme pressure conditions.
--- For use in transmissions and lower units requiring an SAE 75W-90, API GL-5 gear oil.
--- Not for use where Type C gear oil is reccommended.

I know the XB is not a boat motor but alot of the features to this gear oil make sense. Like the corrosion additives would be good for the winter storage or for the moisture built up after making only short trips, I know I read something on this board about making sure the oil has good sheer stability and it seems to be designed for high output applications.

I do plan to continue my search for the Mobil gear oil but I just wanted some opinions on the castrol.

Chris
