went out for a ride with my friend who just bought a used 2002 cbr600. We stopped at a honda dealer and they refused to inspect it because of the aftermarket exhaust. My fuel pump is louder than his bike! What the This is NH what ever happened to live free and die.....

A lot of companies are doing that now. I seem to remember that is the new policy for Harley, at least in some states. If the stock exhaust has been replaced with straights, they can't touch'em. Trying to build up to the new noise laws. It sucks because like you said, not all aftermarkets will be obnoxiously loud. Just a case of those before ruining it for the future.

Isn't it live free OR die?

...I thinks it's "live free and the service dies!"

Koz, some states (like Virginia) require yearly state inspections. They check things like signal lights, headlights, etc. Kind of a pain in the butt. There are too many ways around it though. For example, my buddy has a modified sportster. No speedometer, no signal lights, no reflectors, nearly running straights, etc. He used to work at the bike shop that does the inspection.

"Inspection" is East Coast slang for "State Revenue".

Inspections can be a pain if you don't know the right people. Vermont law says if it ain't stock, it don't pass. That means any exhaust, regardless of db or emissions, will not pass if it didn't come from the factory that way. Same thing with lights, etc.

Oddly enough there was no place on the fork to put the inspection sticker. I ended up having to REMOVE the reflectors to get an open spot.

Luckily Vermont law does not require reflectors (it limits how many you could have, but does not require them).

Texas has the inspections... I had put on my license plate on with four of those little reflectors, blue. Guy told me he couldn't inspect it with the blue reflectors. Went home and put the red ones on, passed... Went back home and put the blues ones back on. Blue license plate and blue inspection sticker, those blue reflectors just matched, that's all... : )
Oh, we put our inspection stickers right below or next to the plate, not on the fork leg...
Girl at the inspection shop told me as long as the lights and horn, etc work and there were no trouble lights on it usually gets passed...
Yep, we've got shops that that's all they do is inspections... ; )

just got a rejection in MA for removal of cheese grater and installing the integrated rear turn/brake leds. Had to install rear turns and get reinspected. Told that turns and brake lights can't be together in the same lense. But passed with the D&D no issues there.
