So I'm sitting in traffic and I smell this smell. Smells like burt transmission fluid. So when I get home I pop off the primary inspection cover and smoke bellows out. I did notice that there was a lot of rattling. So I called the dealer. They suggested I adjusted the primary chain and changed the fluid. Which I did. Went on a run, bike ran great no abnormal noise, but when I removed the primary inspection cover, smoke started coming out again. Any clue as to what is causing this? Is the Stator going bad, would it cause it to smoke like this?

Yes! Bad enough for the neighbors to come out. I can't get the bike to the dealer till next Sat. Would running it cause any major damage?

Stator is taking a $hit, the bike may die while riding it.

When you die... do you mean it could be running and just stop running or the bike refuses to start? If it refuses to start, can u push start it.

I'm not going to recommend it, but you should be OK to ride it 20 mins or so to the dealer if you put it on the battery tender overnight, then disconnect the stator from the voltage regulator for the trip. Wrap the pins in electrical tape before you ride it, although the stator is probably shorted to ground anyway. My wife could ride the blast around like that for three hours or so at a clip while we were waiting for her new regulator...
